The pow wow is important\, not only as a celebration of our Native American culture\, song and dance but also\, more importantly\, helps to fund the Nellie Tucker Scholarship. The Nellie Tucker scholarship\, administered through the AICMC\, provides funds for local Native students who are trying to further their education. \nRain or Shine – No Pets – Contest Dancing \nHours\nSaturday 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM\nSunday 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM \nAdmission: \nPre-Sale Tickets $1.00\nFront Gate Adult Admission $3.00\nFront Gate Kids & Elders Admission $1.00 \nLocation\nMariposa County Fairgrounds\n5007 Fairgrounds Road\nMariposa\, CA 95338 \nSeveral dance performances and contests are featured at the Mariposa Pow Wow. Women and girls compete in Fancy or Shawl Dancing\, Jingle Dress and Traditional Dancing. \nMariposa Pow Wow Mini-Gallery\n\n \nMariposa Pow Wow Contest Dancing\nContest dancing is divided into categories by age and style. The number of categories varies among regions according to local traditions and to the number of dancers. Dancers are judged on their regalia\, as well as their dancing style. Dancing out of beat\, losing regalia\, or failing to stop on the fast drum beat can disqualify a dancer. The age categories being with Tiny Tots which are children five years old and under\, Boys and Girls ages 6 to 11 are next\, then Boys and Girls ages 12-17. The adult categories are divided between men and women ages 18 to 49. The Golden Age category is for men and women over 50. \nAbout the Grand Entry\nThe Grand Entry begins each session with a procession of dancers. The Flag Bearers lead the procession carrying the Eagle Staff\, American Flag\, Canadian Flag\, and frequently\, the MIA-POW Flag. Being a Flag Bearer is an honor usually given to a veteran\, a respected traditional dancer\, or a traditional elder. Indian Royalty are next\, consisting of tribal and organizational princesses and other dignitaries. The Head Dancers lead a single file procession of dancers arranged by category and age. Everyone is asked to stand during the Grand Entry and men should remove their head coverings unless it has an eagle feather. After all the dancers are in the arena\, a flag song is sung to honor the Eagle Staff and the flags. Then a respect person\, usually an elder\, offers a prayer. This is followed by a victory song during which the Eagle Staff and flags are placed in their standards. At this time\, the Master of Ceremonies will introduce the Head Dancers and Royalty. \nMariposa Pow Wow Head Staff\nMASTER OF CEREMONIES: To Be Announced\nARENA DIRECTOR: To Be Announced\nHOST DRUM: To Be Announced\nHEAD MAN: To Be Announced\nHEAD WOMAN: To Be Announced\nTEEN BOY: To Be Announced\nTEEN GIRL: To Be Announced\nTINYTOT BOY: To Be Announced\nTINY TOT GIRL: To Be Announced \nMariposa Pow Wow Schedule (subject to change)\nSATURDAY \n10:00 AM Gates Open\n12:00 PM Grand Entry\n1:00 PM Mariposa Pow Wow Princess Crowning\nTiny Tot Dancing\, Competition Dancing\, Inter-Tribal Dancing\n6:00 PM Dinner Break\, Miwuk Dancing\n7:00 PM Grand Entry\n8:00 PM Competition Dancing\nspacerAdult Categories\nInter-Tribal Dancing\n10:00 PM Closing Ceremonies \nSUNDAY\n10:00 AM Gates Open\n11:00 AM Grand Entry & Opening Prayer\n12:00 PM Competition Dancing\n3:30 PM Awards Ceremony\n7:00 PM Grand Entry\n4:00 PM Closing Ceremonies \nFor More Information\nMariposa Powwow Committee: Call 209-721-2244; Email mariposapowwow@gmail.com \nAbsolutely no smoking\, drugs or alcohol allowed. The Native Americans at Dartmouth (NAD) and Native American Program (NAP) have hosted the Dartmouth Pow-Wow since 1973\, attracting over one-thousand on-lookers annually. \n\nDartmouth Powwow\nThe Dartmouth Powwow\, held each year on Mother’s Day weekend\, serves as an opportunity for members of both the Dartmouth and Upper Valley communities to observe\, participate\, and learn from a broad representation of Native American dances\, music\, food\, and arts. \nThe annual Dartmouth Powwow is a two-day celebration that first began in 1973. Andrew Shipman ’18 and Marina Van Pelt ’18 co-chaired the committee that oversees the event\, sponsored by a variety of organizations\, including Native Americans at Dartmouth\, the Native American Program\, the Native American Alumni Association at Dartmouth\, the Office of the President and the Special Programs and Events Committee. \nThe Dartmouth Powwow draws participants from around the country\, including those from many different tribes. Each tribe has a distinct style of dress\, and with the mix of traditional and contemporary colors\, each traditional dress regalia was unique. The components of a dress regalia are often handmade by the wearer himself or herself or passed down from prior generations. \nMen and women compete in two separate categories. For men\, the categories of dance are typically Fancy Dance\, Northern Traditional\, Southern Straight and the Modern Grass. For women\, categories typically include Traditional Buckskin or Cloth\, Fancy Shawl and Jingle Dress. \nAlmost two dozen vendors will surround the dance arena\, offering a wide variety of native crafts. Fry Bread\, a round disk of unsweetened fried dough\, is a native food favorite at this\, and all other powwows where it is found. If you see lines in front of a booth\, there’s a good chance they offer some type of fry bread. \nDartmouth Powwow Mini Gallery\n\n \nCome experience the sights\, sounds and smells of the Dartmouth Powwow\, including dancing\, drumming and singin\, beautiful dance regalia – all coming together on The Green. Fill out the online form and we will send out your information packet. \nHistorical Participants\nParticipation in the Saukville Crossroads Rendezvous is by invitation only. Participation in the past events does not guarantee your invitation to the event. Our focus for the Saukville Crossroads Rendezvous is the Fur Trade in Wisconsin from 1750 through 1840; priority will be given to reenactors\, presenters\, sutlers\, and entertainers who are excellent demonstrators and educators\, and who are willing to participate in our School Day on Friday. Participants will be asked to provide photos and links\, or a statement\, describing your individual or group presentation; we are looking for dedication to historical accuracy\, and a thorough knowledge of the time period and the people you are representing. If you are interested in participating in the event\, please fill out the contact form below. In the comment section\, please add your individual or group description\, and any links\, if applicable. If you meet our requirements\, registration forms will be sent to you. Only individuals who have sent in registration will be admitted to the event. Participant Registration \nVolunteers\nWe are looking to work with local Civic and Non-Profit groups to provide food\, beverages\, and services at the event\, but individuals are welcome\, as well. Historical attire will be required and facilitated\, and booth space will be provided to nonprofits. This is an excellent fundraising or service opportunity. If you are interested\, please contact us! \nHistory of the Saukville Crossroads Rendezvous\nSince 1988\, the Saukville Historical Society has been dedicated to preserving\, recording and\nmaintaining the historical information and antiquities of the Saukville Area\, as well as promoting the awareness of the area’s historical culture\, to develop an understanding of\, and pride in\, our past\, and to recognize its importance in the future. \nFrom 1991 to 2006\, the SHS ran the Crossroads Rendezvous historical reenactment at Peninsula Park every third weekend in May\, bringing thousands of visitors to Saukville and providing an incredibly unique educational experience for area children and their families. Revenue from the event funded the restoration of the 1912 Firehouse\, located on Mill Street in Saukville\, that the Historical Society calls home. \nIn the fall of 2017\, Mary Boyle and Sara Dahmen\, two historical reenactors from Port Washington\, decided it was time to bring the Crossroads Rendezvous back. Together\, with their families and the Saukville Historical Society\, they are excited to introduce a new generation of visitors to the magic of living history and the important part “the crossroads” of Saukville played in the history of our community\, State\, and Country. Join us at the Crossroads this May! \nHistory of the Crossroads\nThe Township and Village of Saukville are located at the ancient crossroads of two major American Indian trails: the old Decorah Road and the old Green Bay Road. The Decorah Road became the present-day Wisconsin Highway 33\, and the old Green Bay Road became the road that is now part of the southern portion of Ozaukee County Highway O and the northern portion of Ozaukee County Highway W. The Indian trails crossed where the Milwaukee River makes an unusual bending loop\, forming a unique river peninsula.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nThe Green Bay Trail\, which had a great impact on the settlement of southeast Wisconsin and the State\, overall\, connected Fort Howard at Green Bay with Fort Dearborn in Chicago\, and ran through Saukville. This system of trails extended from Hudson Bay all the way to Florida. In 1993\, the Wisconsin State Legislature designated the Green Bay Trail route\, from the Illinois State line to Green Bay\, an official heritage route\, the “Green Bay Ethnic Trail.”\n* From the Village of Saukville Downtown Revitalization Plan[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nAbout the Sponsor\nThe Saukville Crossroads Rendezvous is presented by the Saukville Historical Society\, a 501 (c) (3) organization affiliated with the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. Please direct any questions or concerns regarding the event to the organizers at info@crossroadsrendezvous.org\, or fill out the form below. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Saukville Crossroads Rendezvous on the third weekend of May at Peninsula Park in Saukville\, Wisconsin. \nTags: Saukville Crossroads Rendezvous\, Crossroads Rendezvous\, Saukville Rendezvous\, Wisconsin Rendezvous\, Wisconsin Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Wisconsin Voyageur Rendezvous \nView other Wisconsin Rendezvous

Fife and drum corps units from across the United States join the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums to perform grand displays of period music throughout the weekend. You’ll want to respond to the Drummers Call\, a call beaten by the duty fifer and drummer to mass the regimental musicians for the playing of ceremonies such as Reveille\, Retreat\, and Tattoo. \nAdmission: General Park Admission\, No Event Ticket Required \nHours: Daily 9:00 am – 5:00 pm \nLocation\nColonial Williamsburg (performances in various venues)\n101-A Visitor Center Drive\nWilliamsburg\, VA 23185\n(888) 965-7254 \nDrummers Call Participant Registration\nNOTE: ALL Drummers Call participants are required to pre-register for this event. By hosting an event such as Drummers Call\, Colonial Williamsburg is able to display and educate its guests about the importance of Fife and Drum units from the 18th to the 20th centuries. The annual event has become one that welcomes new units each year\, while relying on a “core” of Corps to participate. \nWhat is a Military “Tattoo”?\nThe Tattoo was originally a piece played by the fifers and drummers of military units to announce the time to return to camp for the evening. Loosely translated from a Dutch phrase\, “Turn the Taps To”\, meaning the taverns were to close for the evening (turn their taps off). \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Drummers Call at Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg\, Virginia. \n \nTags: Drummers Call at Colonial Williamsburg\, Williamsburg Fife and drum corps muster\, revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Drum & Fife Corps Events

Scaife\, a noted historian and author of Campaign for Atlanta. Both Saturday and Sunday’s battles will be held on the same field but with a different scenario – and maybe a surprise or two. Since 1999\, the Battle of Reseca Reenactment has become famous for its aggressive battles and surprise tacticals. Extensive recreations of breastworks and Van den Corput’s redoubt also await your visit. \nReenactors\nBoth Federal and Confederate camps are located in reenactor-friendly sites within easy reach of the sutlers\, vendors\, and reenactor parking. Both encampments will be located close to the respective 1864 lines of battle. Firewood\, bedding straw\, and horse hay will be provided. For campaign-style reenactors\, camping will be permitted in or near the breastworks\, but all amenities will have to be secured from the main static camp areas. On Sunday morning\, a non-denominational church service will be conducted on-site at the Social Fly for all reenactors. \nVisitors\nVarious civilian activities will be conducted during the Battle of Reseca Reenactment. Period sutlers\, authentic civilian and refugee camps\, and modern concessions will be available. On Saturday morning\, all reenactors are encouraged to attend the Memorial Service at the Resaca Confederate Cemetery located at the south end of the farm. The cemetery is the final resting place of 450 soldiers and is one of the first two such Confederate Cemeteries established in our nation. Later Saturday evening\, a period social and dance will be held for all reenactors\, with period music. \n \nSchool Tours\nDuring Friday morning prior to the Battle of Reseca Reenactment\, free school tours will be provided for our area youth. This educational service is for all of our area public and private schools\, home schools\, church youth groups\, and scout troops who would enjoy learning more about the American Civil War. Learn More \nShuttle Transportation\nThe Gordon County Antique Tractor Club will provide free transportation from the spectator parking area to the battle site each day. They will also be available throughout the event to assist stranded motorists. \nOther Reseca Civil War Sites\nWhile in the area\, be sure to visit the new Resaca Battlefield Historic Site that is open now on weekends. This important battlefield is located just off of I-75 at Exit 320 just miles from the reenactment site. The new battlefield park features hiking trails and interpretive markers. A new visitor center will also be opening soon. \nAlso while in the area\, be sure to visit the Fort Wayne Civil War Historic Site just yards from downtown Resaca. This historic fort was part of the defensive earthworks guarding the river and town of Resaca during the 1864 battle. After the battle\, it was occupied by Federal troops. \nIMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS \n\nThe main reenactor parking has been moved to a new location for your convenience and for a much shorter walk to camp. A trail head at the back of this area leads to the CS Campaign camp. A new foot bridge over the creek connects the Campaigner area and the static CS Camp\, allowing easier access to the Sutlers.\nDue to liability issues\, the Battle of Reseca Reenactment Event Staff will not allow reenactors OR the public the personal use of any type of recreational four-wheelers\, off road motorcycles\, golf carts or similar type vehicles to operate on site. Transportation will be provided to and from the spectator and handicapped parking areas.\nDue to troop camp locations\, no MODERN CAMPING will be available for RV vehicles\, campers or modern tentage\, etc. Modern camping is available at the KOA Campground (10 minutes away) located just off I-75 (Exit 315 – Red Bud Road) at 2523 Red Bud Road N.E. The phone number is: 706-629-7511.\nThe Boy Scout camp is available upon advanced approval.\nNo non-reenactors\, except for medical emergency personnel\, will be permitted past the spectator line during the battles.\n\nResaca Battlefield Preservation\nA portion of the Battle of Resaca Reenactment proceeds geso towards the preservation of the Resaca battlefield land. To become more involved in the preservation efforts\, contact the Friends of Resaca Battlefield\, non-profit organization dedicated to that task. Learn More \nAbout the Host: Georgia Division Reenactors Association\, Inc.\nThe Battle of Resaca Reenactment is hosted annually by the many volunteers of the\nGeorgia Division Reenactors Association\, Inc. (GDRA)\, a non-profit organization proudly serving Georgia since 1978. This event is put on for reenactors by reenactors\, and for the enjoyment of the public in order for everyone to have an experience to remember. Come and relive this part of our history. In May each year\, the Plainsmen Black Powder Club sponsor a “rendezvous” on private land Southwest of Kindred\, North Dakota. Participants\, sometimes called “buckskinners” come from the whole region\, including Canada to take part. The Plainsmen Black Powder Club Rendezvous is a family-friendly event\, offering a variety of shooting competitions. There’s a lot to see and do\, including competitions in hawk and knife throwing\, primitive archery\, games for children\, cooking contests\, homemade wine judging\, fire starting contests\, and many other activities. So\, step back to a time where you can sit and visit around a campfire\, enjoy a good story\, and share good food and good times. \nAdmission Fees\nOnlookers are free; Saturday 9AM-5PM Sunday 9AM-1PM\nCamping available\, $20 for up to 2 adults and children under 18 with $10 for each additional adult in same structure. \nLocation\nRendezvous Site\n6233 143rd Avenue SE\nSheldon\, ND 58068 \nDirections to the Rendezvous Site:\nSouth of Sheldon\, North Dakota. Haul out your own garbage. All dogs must be leashed; clean up after your dog\, your kids & yourself. No generators in modern camp unless authorized by the booshway.* \nContact Information\nplainsmenblackpowderclub@gmail.com \nDuring the great fur trade era\, a rendezvous was the time all the trappers would get together to sell their furs and buy supplies from the “traders” who would bring supplies to the rendezvous site. At the rendezvous\, the men would renew old friendships and engage in various competitions to test their skills of every kind and character. There are black powder clubs in every state of the United States\, in Canada and even in Europe. There are several rendezvous held annually in our region\, including Bemidji\, Perham\, Detroit Lakes\, and Gary\, South Dakota. \nToday’s Rendezvous\nAt each rendezvous\, a “living history” or period encampment is set up and participants dress in period clothing and use period equipment. An area is also usually set aside for people to camp in modern tents or campers\, known as “tin tepees.” This allows people to participate who for a variety of reasons choose not to have a fur trade era (pre-1840s) period camp. There are events where only period correct camps are allowed on site. \nCompetition Events\nThe sponsoring club of any rendezvous runs many activities\, usually over a weekend. There are “national rendezvous” around the country that last a week or more. For example\, at the Plainsmen Black Powder Club Rendezvous\, we offer a variety of shooting competitions. There are also competitions in hawk and knife throwing\, primitive archery\, games for children\, cooking contests\, homemade wine judging\, fire starting contests\, and many other activities. \nAbout Plainsmen Black Powder Club\nThe Plainsmen Black Powder Club started in 1972 with a small group of men who had a passion for muzzle-loading guns and the ways of the past. We try to portray the ways of the mountain men. Some call it “living history”. Today\, the club is more family-oriented by dressing the parts of the past at rendezvous throughout the US. We dress anywhere from the 1750s to 1840s. At rendezvous we have shooting competitions\, trail walks\, tomahawk and knife throws\, women’s and children’s games. We can also be found just sitting and enjoying the peace and quiet. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Plainsmen Black Powder Club Rendezvous in May outside of Kindred\, North Dakota. \nTags: Plainsmen Black Powder Club Rendezvous\, Plainsmen Mountain Man Rendezvous\, North Dakota Mountain Man Rendezvous\, North Dakota Rendezvous \nView Other North Dakota Rendezvous

Each year on the 3rd weekend in May\, hundreds of Colonial\, British\, and Native reenactors converge at the re-created Fort Watauga at Sycamore Shoals to relive the days when America’s first frontier was the land beyond the blue ridge. Several Revolutionary War living history units will be in attendance and will make the 18th century come to life during the weekend. \n\nSiege at Ft. Watauga\nThe Siege at Fort Watauga is a live retelling of the Cherokee attack brought on the settlers of the Watauga valley in the summer of 1776. At Sycamore Shoals\, Fort Watauga offered protection to nearly 200 settlers during a two-week siege led by Cherokee War Chief\, Old Abram\, and 300 warriors. Numerous other individuals also participate in the event portraying many 18th century walks of life including Cherokee Natives\, Backcountry Hunters\, Farmers\, Housewives\, African Slaves\, Commoners and Gentry. \nImmerse yourself in 18th century frontier life as you witness daily aspects of colonial culture. Take advantage of colonial merchants selling period wares in “Sutler’s Row”. See the clash of two cultures as the attack on fort Watauga is recreated both days. \nBring the entire family to the Siege at Fort Watauga and see how your ancestors played a crucial role in our region’s history and in the formation of our nation. Hear the rattle of muskets\, smell the campfire smoke\, and see the 18th century come to life at the Siege of Ft. Watauga. This event is sponsored by The Washington County Regiment of North Carolina Militia and The Friends of Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area. \nSiege at Fort Watauga Mini-Gallery\n\n \nAlso during the event take advantage of colonial merchants selling period wares in “Sutler’s Row”.
