While General Daniel Donelson’s brigade was moving forward into attack position\, Brigadier General William R. Terrill’s Union Brigade was in the process of forming their line on the “Open Knob”. Maney’s Brigade\, assisted by Wharton’s Cavalry\, attacked with vigor\, rolling over Terrill’s regiments as they arrived on the field piecemeal. \nThe Fight for Bottom’s Barn: Sunday 1:00 PM\nThis battle scenario simulates the events that took place at approximately 3:00 PM on Wednesday\, October 8th\, 1862. Since about 10:00 in the morning\, William H. Lytle’s brigade had taken up position on the right flank of Union 1st Corps commanded by General Alexander M. McCook. During the ceremony\, tribe members also carry a lance\, each one decorated to reflect the owner’s military past. The Battle was the first planned attack by the American army during the Revolutionary War and aimed at liberating Philadelphia from British control. Eleven of Historic Germantown’s sites were involved in the October 4\, 1777 Battle\, with Cliveden as the main stage. The tradition of remembering the Battle of Germantown through reenactment dates to the 150th anniversary in 1927\, where people dressed in their ancestors’ clothing to show their connections to the historic event. Today\, the Revolutionary Germantown Festival and Germantown Battle Reenactments that it includes\, tells the diverse stories of everyone involved\, from General George Washington\, to Ned Hector\, an African American Patriot teamster\, and even the pacifist Quakers who got caught in the cross-fire. \nHistory of the Battle of Germantown\nOne day in history\, General George Washington’s daring campaign to liberate the occupied capital city\, Philadelphia\, came to an abrupt end on the Germantown Road on October 4\, 1777. Washington planned a pre-dawn attack on Germantown\, where thousands of British soldiers were camped in the fields\, living off the crops and livestock of the local residents. Homes were commandeered as headquarters for the British officers\, including General William Howe at Stenton. The American Civil War battle reenactment is held on the actual battlefield of the 1864 Battle of Droop mountain\, at the Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park located several miles South of the Town of Hillsboro\, West Virginia along U.S. highway 219 at the top of Droop Mountain. \nThe Droop Mountain Battleground is quiet today. Signs and markers scattered about the park tell stories of a battle fought. Artifacts in a small museum reveal history of both sides of the war. And on the second weekend of October each year\, that silence will be shattered by the Battle of Droop Mountain Reenactment. The anniversary reenactment will play out again by host Bryans Battery Reenactment Group and other members of the West Virginia Reenactors Association. The Sierra Muzzle Loaders Fall Primitive Rendezvous honors the culture of the fur trade in the American West between 1800 and 1840\, when free fur trappers and company brigades brought the year’s pelts to Rendezvous to trade for the necessaries of fur trapping. This is a primitive rendezvous. No flashlights or headlamps. Please keep your camp primitive. \nVisitors are welcome to walk through the Sierra Muzzle Loaders Fall Primitive Rendezvous encampments with dozens of primitive campsites\, to see how the Mountain Men lived\, cooked and dressed. Merchants and traders will be selling the goods that Mountain Men needed for trapping beaver and fox and trading with the Native Indians.
