The Nez Perce Tribe hosts the annual Memorial Pow Wow\, an event that brings in a crowd from around the area and surrounding states to reflect and celebrate. \n\nChief Joseph & Warrior’s Memorial Powwow\nThe Chief Joseph and Warriors Memorial Pow Wow is in honor of those lost in the Nez Perce War of 1877 led by Chief Joseph. The war\, that ended in surrender by the strategist behind the fighting and retreat of the Nez Perce\, Chief Joseph began as a way to keep territory protected against settlers. \nEveryone is Welcome – Free Admission | Memorials Start Thursday Morning \nPowwow Schedule (tentative)\nFriday\nMorning Memorials\nLunch Feed\nAfternoon Name Givings and Other Giveaways\n7:00 p.m. Powwow Begins\nSaturday\n10:00 a.m. Whitebird Pipe Ceremony in Whitebird\, ID\n1:00 p.m. Powwow begins\nBreak\n7:00 p.m. Powwow Begins\nSunday\nMorning meal\n1:00 p.m. Powwow Begins\nFinal prizes awarded \nThis Memorial Powwow is truly a family event and a way of life. So – bring everyone and enjoy the sights\, sounds and smells of Native American dancing\, singing\, crafts and food! \nSupport the Chief Joseph & Warriors Memorial Powwow at gofundme\nHonor the Past\, Celebrate the Present\, Shape the Future Identity is a key factor in community wellness\, and our Nez Perce elders instilled in successive generations the importance of perpetuating tribal history\, language\, and culture.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nThis tribal identity is taught through many forms of engagement\, one of the most crucial being local community powwows\, which help strengthen our identity. At these smaller local gatherings\, elders impart “heart knowledge” using songs\, regalia\, drums\, and dances\, art forms that have been sustained and performed by the Nez Perce people for many generations. \nBut today\, teaching tribal history is an ongoing battle in the face of modern distractions that compete for the interest of our youth. Recognizing this challenge more than 40 years ago\, and fearing that important tribal history was being forgotten\, a group of tribal members (descendants of the Nez Perces present during the War of 1877) formed a committee and established the Chief Joseph and Warriors Memorial Powwow. \nWhen first developed\, this annual event sparked renewed interest in younger generations and attracted visitors from other tribes. At one time\, this powwow was so popular\, it was one of the largest tribal events in the Pacific Northwest! Unfortunately\, interest has waned over the years\, and the committee has found it increasingly difficult to continue this powwow\, yet these tribal elder DO continue to host it with minimal funding and support. To help renew interest and increase participation in The Chief Joseph & Warriors Memorial and Celebration powwow\, we’re raising funds that will go directly to the committee to help cover expenses. They are a volunteer-based group that relies on fundraising to continue this memorial year after year\, and they gratefully accept any donation amount. Please help us renew this deeply meaningful powwow for current and future generations. Qe’ciyew’yew! No alcohol or drugs be permitted. Make sure to RSVP on Facebook and let your friends know that you are attending. \nWhat is Lehal?\nLehal is an ancient First Nation’s game which consists of two opposing teams. There are two pairs of “bones”\, one pair with a stripe and one without. The game also uses a set of scoring sticks (usually ten) and in some areas a “kick” or “king” stick—an extra stick won by the team who gets to start the game. The game is usually accompanied by drumming and singing used to boost the morale of the team. The side that has the bones sings\, while the other tries to guess. The musical accompaniment is also sometimes used to taunt the other team. Players and spectators may place bets on teams\, or individual matches within the game between one guess and the other team’s bone hiders. \nThe entire weekend is free to the public and held at the Chief William Campsite and Arbor\, Williams Lake Indian Band. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Chief William Fathers Day Pow Wow on Father’s Day Weekend at the Chief Will-Yum Campsite and Arbor in Williams Lake\, BC Canada. \n \nTags: Chief William Fathers Day Pow Wow\, Chief William Fathers Day Powwow\, Canada Powwow\, Canada Pow Wow \nView other Canada Powwows

The Pacific Primitive Rendezvous is an historic reenactment of a rendezvous of the fur trade era. We try for authenticity in all aspects of the event. This is a pre-1840 family friendly primitive Rendezvous and open to registered participants only. This event gives people the opportunity to attend a quality PRIMITIVE event which hosts a variety of shooting\, archery and hawk & knife competitions\, a plethora of seminars and kid games. This event is not intended to appeal to everyone\, it is intended to appeal to the PRIMITIVE BUCKSKINNERS. It is hoped that it will be CHALLENGING EVEN TO THEM! Arrive in Primitive dress. \nPacific Primitive Rendezvous Mini-Gallery\n\n \nThis year PPR is being held on the land of Jack and Teresa Southworth. These gracious and generous landowners have hosted PPR’s in past years and are excited about 2019. In the spirit of Rendezvous\, we intend to occupy a different portion of their property and discover new camp sites and shooting ranges. We have a great staff ready to host a fun-filled and challenging event as we step back in time. I will post additional information as we go forward so that you can familiarize yourselves with camp and trade rules as well as highlights of all the other activities we have planned. \nGate rules: Primitive Dress Required\nEveryone must be in primitive dress coming in to camp and going out. This is a primitive camp\, but anyone is welcome. There are rules and period correct clothing (pre 1840 and no further back then 1700) is required. So pick out your clothes\, and polish your camp gear and join us at the Pacific Primitive Rendezvous in June\, and let’s all have a historical good time! \nInformation and Questions \n\nUse the Facebook Wall (see link at right) to inquire about details until more are posted.\nPre-registered Full Trader set-up: Wednesday\, June 12. It was built in what is now Perrysburg\, Ohio\, on a bluff overlooking the Maumee River rapids. Ground was broken on February 2\, 1813 under the orders of General William Henry Harrison\, who wanted to fortify the region. Throughout the next three months professional soldiers and militiamen alike persevered through cold winter weather and mud that would at times be knee-deep. Despite horrid weather and disease in the camp\, the American army was able to complete Fort Meigs by the end of April\, 1813\, just in time for a British attack. Begin your journey in the Fort Meigs Visitor Center. Purchase tickets to explore the fort or shop the museum store. The administrative offices\, museum\, education center\, restrooms and vending machines are all found in the Visitor Center. All visits to Fort Meigs begin and end here. It is your gateway to life in 1813!
