Reenactors portray American and British soldiers and their families. During the early morning hours of July 7\, 1777\, British General John Burgoyne’s army met the resistance and bravery of Americans for the first time in the Battle of Hubbardton. A massive British invasion from Canada chased the Continental Army from Mount Independence south to Hubbardton. \nThe British strategy was to continue to New York and divide New England from the rest of the colonies. On a grassy hill\, the New Englanders made their stand. While the British held the field and technically won the battle\, their losses were so heavy that they gave up chasing the Americans to tend to their casualties. The Battle of Hubbardton marked the beginning of the end for Burgoyne and his great plan. On August 16 he suffered a stunning blow at the Battle of Bennington. Of those 16 gatherings\, six were located at the Green River Rendezvous site\, eight miles west of Pinedale near Daniel\, Wyoming. It was at this site where famous mountain men like Jim Bridger\, Kit Carson\, Thomas Fitzpatrick carved their legends and opened the way for settlement of the West and supplied lustrous beaver pelts for the fashion industries of Europe and the eastern United States. Trappers\, travelers and Native American Indians all gathered to barter\, sell and gamble away the pelts and skins they’d gathered through the winter from hard\, dangerous labor. Guns\, jewelry\, supplies and other trade goods were also swapped. The Howard County American Indian Pow Wow is an opportunity to interact with American Indians\, and to enjoy the best of Native American dancing and singing\, craft demonstrations and story-telling. Members of the Haliwa-Saponi\, Piscataway\, Chickahominy\, Rappahannock\, Cherokee\, Sioux\, Iroquois\, Lumbee\, and Navajo are a few of the Tribes that will participate. Some of the finest Native American crafts will be available.
