Today\, visitors can discover an amazing collection of military architecture\, including the oldest building in the Great Lakes region: the “French Castle.” The fort is a New York State and National Historic Landmark and hosts several reenactments each year.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nOld Fort Niagara offers a chance to step back in time to an era when great empires struggled for control of North America. Visit original 18th century buildings\, enjoy incredible views and take part in exciting living history programs. Don’t miss the Fort’s original War of 1812 Flag. \nInside the Fort\, you’ll tour original buildings where Native American\, French\, British and American soldiers lived and worked from the 18th to the 20th centuries. During the summer months you’ll witness musket and artillery firing demonstrations\, go on a guided tour\, see artisans at work and learn about life on the Niagara Frontier during the 18th and early 19th centuries. \nIf you visit during one of our special events\, you’ll meet reenactors who faithfully recreate the lives of past Fort garrisons and depict the struggles that led to the birth of the United States and Canada. We are always looking for young people interested in history and living off the grid; if you are one of them\, this is the place for you. If you are older…. This is the place for you too\, you are never too old to learn or to share your experience. \nIf you love the outdoors and\, moreover\, if you love photography\, don’t forget your camera and make sure you walk around the property and enjoy the wildflowers and wildlife; the entire venue is an environmental center as well as a historical center. Fife and Drum Corps gained increased popularity during the American bicentennial celebrations. In 18th-century military life\, fifes and drums served as one of the primary modes of battlefield communication and camp regulation. \n \nHistory of the Fort Ticonderoga Fife and Drum Corps Fort Ticonderoga formed its first Fife and Drum Corps in 1926 on the eve of the 150th anniversary celebrations of American Independence. The Corps performed at the Fort each summer until the beginning of World War II. When the World’s Fair came to New York City in 1939\, the Fife and Drum Corps was a featured performer on May 10th\, Fort Ticonderoga Day celebrating the 164th anniversary of the capture of the Fort by Ethan Allen\, Benedict Arnold and the Green Mountain Boys. \nIn 1973\, in preparation for the bicentennial\, Fort Ticonderoga revived the Fife and Drum Corps to perform daily during the museum campus’ summer season. The Fife and Drum Corps has performed every year since and has been featured performers at many major public events including the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympic Games\, the christening of the US Navy Guided Missile Cruiser USS Ticonderoga CG-47\, and several Evacuation Day parades in Boston\, Massachusetts. \n \nToday the Fort Ticonderoga Fife and Drum Corps is comprised of Ticonderoga area high school students who are paid employees of Fort Ticonderoga\, an independent not-for-profit educational organization. The Fife and Drum Corps is part of Fort Ticonderoga’s Interpretive Department whose focus brings to life Fort Ticonderoga’s specific history through daily interpretive programs\, historic trades and special events. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Ticonderoga Fife and Drum Corps Muster at Historic Fort Ticonderoga in Ticonderoga\, New York. \nTags: Fort Ticonderoga Fife and Drum Corps Muster\, Fort Ticonderoga Fife & Drum Corps Muster\, Fife & Drum Corps Muster \nDaily Programs\, Activities & Demonstrations\nFort Ticonderoga Special Events\nHistory of Fort Ticonderoga\nMap of Fort Ticonderoga (pdf)

Since 1957\, the event has attracted hundreds of dancers and participants\, and thousands of visitors each year\, to the Piikani Nation Arbor at Crowlodge Park. As Canada’s oldest powwow event\, the Piikani Nation Powwow features everything from a parade to dance competitions\, drum and hand drum contests\, IFCA rodeo horse racing\, softball\, a golf tournament\, and even a princess pageant. \n[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyGjfC2X92o&width=650&height=400&[/embedyt] \nPiikani Nation Powwow and Celebration\nThe Piikani Nation Powwow started from the idea by a couple of people who had gone to the States and seen a reserve do something like this\, and so they brought it back home to Piikani\, making us the first reserve in Canada to have the first “Indian Days Celebration”. The name eventually changed to “The Piikani Nation Annual Celebration”. Most reserves in Canada now have this type celebration. \nThe current dance arbour was first used in 2013. Not only the bleachers being able to hold hundreds of people\, but also the floor where people could place their own chairs\, having this state of the art arbour was a highlight of that year’s celebrations. \nGrand Entries\nFriday 7:00 p.m.\nSaturday 1:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.\nSunday 1:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.\nRegistration Opens Friday 3:00 p.m. \nPowwow Head Staff\nPowwow Chair: To Be Announced\nMaster of Ceremonies: To Be Announced\nArena Directo: : To Be Announced\nTabulation: C&T Tabulating \nDance & Drum Contests \nDrum Payout: First 4 Places\nDrum Split for non-placing Hand Drum Contet: 1 Entry per Group \nDance Contests: Prize Money for first 3 places\nJunior Adults 18-39\nSenior Adults 40-59\nGolden Age 60+ and Buckskin\nTeens 13-17\nTiny Tots: To be paid daily\nSpecials: To Be Announced \n \nCamping\nCamping & shower facilities on site with 24-hour security. \nLocation\nPiikani Nation Arbor\nCrowlodge Park\nBrocket T0K 0H0\, Alberta\, Canada\nGeo Location: 49.540020\, -113.757430\nDriving Map Link to Dance Arbor \nFor More Information: 403.965.2985 ptks@piikanination.com \nAbout the Piikani Nation\nThe Piikani First Nation is a small reserve in the corner of southern Alberta. The Piikani Nation is no exception\, in addition to the music\, dancing and hand games\, and parade\, the Piikani Nation Powwow includes a rodeo with barrel racing\, steer riding and breakaway roping. \nTraditional Dancing\nEach dance requires special regalia. With bells on their dresses\, these three are heading to perform the women’s jingle dress dance. All age groups participate in specific dances\, including the fancy\, traditional\, jingle dress\, old style chicken and grass dances. \nTeepee Camp\nDon’t expect a forest of teepees (tipis). Many visitors opt for trailers or hotel rooms. But a few traditional tents make up the scene with staple southern Alberta wind turbines towering in the background. \nPowwow Attire\nThe dancers’ outfits\, decorated with bones\, bells or feathers\, have intricate designs. The beautiful handcrafted items can take years to make. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Piikani Nation Powwow and Celebration at Crowlodge Park in Brocket\, Alberta\, Canada. \nTags: Piikani Nation Powwow and Celebration\, Piikani Nation Pow Wow and Celebration\, Piikani Nation Powwow\, Piikani Nation Pow Wow\, Canada Powwows\, Canada Pow Wows\, Piikani Powwow\, PiikNi Pow Wow \nView other Canada Powwows

At the Listuguj Powwow in 2016\, over 500 people were fed moose\, salmon and fiddleheads on Saturday alone. Keeping people hydrated alone requires over 170 cases of water\, which had to be requested — and donated — from local businesses. The Civil War Reenactment is held on the Eloise Pierce Farm (a real farm!)\, and the 40 acre reenactment space is a cow pasture eleven months out of the year. When you wake up in the morning and peek out of your tent you will see acres or corn and rolling pasture and may hear a cow or a sheep in the distance. This will be their first time demonstrating at this event. They like lots of questions and interactions\, so get ready to learn and have fun!\nStellas Cafe & Catering will again be selling food in the main tent. It was the first major battle in the Kentucky Campaign. The battle took place on and around what is now the grounds of the Blue Grass Army Depot\, outside Richmond\, Kentucky. Confederates captured over 4\,300 Union troops. Total casualties were 5\,353 (206 killed\, 844 wounded\, and 4\,303 captured or missing) on the Union side\, 451 (78 killed\, 372 wounded\, and one missing) for the Confederates. Rendezvous were known to be lively\, joyous places\, where all were allowed- free trappers\, Indians\, native trapper wives and children\, travelers and later on\, even tourists who would venture from even as far as Europe to observe the festivities. Rendezvous are still celebrated as gatherings of like-minded individuals or clubs in many walks of life. The fur trading rendezvous are celebrated by traditional black-powder rifle clubs all over the US and Canada. These gatherings range from small gatherings sponsored by local clubs to large gatherings like the Pacific Primitive Rendezvous and others. These gatherings include much of the same activities of the originals\, centering on the shooting of muzzle-loaded rifles\, trade guns and shotguns\, the throwing of knives and tomahawks and primitive archery\, as well as cooking\, dancing\, singing\, the telling of tall tales and of past rendezvous. Personas taken on by participants include trappers\, traders\, housewives\, Native Americans\, frontiersmen\, free-trappers and many others\, including soldiers. \nThese early frontier gatherings were called “rendezvous”\, French for a meeting at a particular place and time. Calico Rock Museum and Visitor Center is proud to sponsor its Annual Calico Rock Mountain Man Rendezvous and hope you will mark your calendar so you won’t miss our gathering. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Calico Rock Mountain Man Rendezvous in September at Rand City Park in Calico Rock\, Arkansas. \nTags: Calico Rock Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Arkansas Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Arkansas Rendezvous \nView Other Arkansas Rendezvous

Join our re-enactors as they set up tents\, clean their weapons and fire up the blacksmith shop. Climb the circular stairways and experience the harbor view just as the soldiers did in 1861. Walk down our cannon row and touch the actual cannons used to protect this Union stronghold. Tours will be available and public interaction is strongly recommended. Re-enactor participation varies by weekend and weather conditions. \nApril to September\nFrom April to September\, on the third weekend (Saturday and Sunday) of each of those months\, Fort Taylor Living History Weekend offers you the opportunity to experience life in the fort as it was during the Civil War. \nLocation\nFort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park\n601 Howard England Way\nKey West\, FL 33040 \nMore Information: Kevin Bowes\, kevin.bowes@dep.state.fl.us (305) 292-6850 \nThe park is open from 8:00 a.m. until sundown\, 365 days a year. The fort closes at 5:00 p.m. \nAdmission Fees:\n$6.00* per vehicle. Limit 2-8 people per vehicle.\n$2.00* Pedestrians\, bicyclists\, extra passengers\, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass.\n$4.00* Single-occupant vehicle or motorcycle.\n* Plus $.50 per person Monroe County Surcharge. \nHistory of Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park\nSpanish explorers first surveyed the island of Key West in 1513. After the Florida territory was transferred to the U.S.\, the Navy established a small depot here in 1822 to rid the area of pirates. Fishing\, salvaging wrecked ships and cigar manufacturing became the driving economic forces behind the island’s growth making Key West the richest city in Florida in the 1890s. The U.S. Army began construction of Fort Taylor\, named for President Zachary Taylor\, in 1845. With secession and the beginning of war in 1861\, Fort Taylor remained under federal control — one of only three fortresses in Florida to do so — and served as the headquarters for the Federal Navy’s East Gulf Coast Blockading Squadron staying on ‘active duty’ status through 1947. Today\, the fort is a National Historic Landmark containing the largest cache of Civil War-era seacoast cannons in the U.S. \nCannon and Arches\nUnion troops took control of Fort Zachary Taylor early in the Civil War and maintained it through the duration of the war. They made use of the fort’s impressive artillery\, including 10-inch Rodman and Columbiad cannons to detain blockade-running ships seeking to supply the Confederacy. In 1968\, a large supply of Civil War-era guns and ammunition were discovered in the Fort’s buried arsenal. In fact\, Fort Zachary Taylor held the largest collection of Civil War-era cannons in the United States. \nFort Moat\nSoon after the park opened to the public\, a contractor began the process of digging a moat around the fortress. There were two reasons for the project. One was to prevent easy entry into the structure. The other was to give the illusion of the fort in its early days\, surrounded by water. The end result was an attractive division between the fort and the beach and sea beyond. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Taylor Living History Weekend on the third Saturday and Sunday of each month from March to September at Historic Fort Taylor in Key West\, FL. \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events
