DESCRIPTION:2019 Northwest Colonial Festival and Battle Reenactment\nJoin us for the 4th Annual Northwest Colonial Festival and Battle Reenactment will be held on August 8-11\, 2019 on the grounds of the George Washington Inn and Estate in Port Angeles\, Washington. This year’s event will have its own four day weekend to continue telling the story of our founding history as well as life in Colonial America. Billed as the only Colonial Festival on the Pacific Coast\, it draws reenactors from as far away as Arizona and California. \n\nNorthwest Colonial Festival and Battle Reenactment\nThe Red Coats are coming! The Battle on Lexington Green will be fought each morning at 10:30 and the Battle of Concord on the Old North Bridge will be fought each afternoon at 2:30. Between these two battles\, participate in colonial demonstrations such as a sword duel\, court martial\, colonial dance and more throughout the weekend\, visit the colonial village\, enjoy lunch on the grounds\, and visit the gift shop. This is your opportunity to relive history\, including lots of great activities for the kids. \nOn all four days of the festival we invite you to join us for afternoon tea on the Inn’s oceanfront piazza. DESCRIPTION:2019 Meskwaki Powwow\n\nRate This Event\n \nExperience the 105th Annual Meskwaki Powwow on August 8-11\, 2019 at the Meskwaki Powwow Grounds on the Meskwaki Indian Settlement in Tama\, Iowa. The Annual Meskwaki Powwow originated from the traditional religious and social beliefs of the Meskwaki Tribe. Today\, it is not so much a religious event\, but more of a social gathering. Specifically\, today’s event is derived from the “Green Corn Dance” and other social events of the Tribe in their early years. The “Green Corn Dance” was an annual event that took place during the harvesting of crops. The “Field Days” held from 1902 to 1912\, lasted about a week\, with dancing\, games\, and horse racing. It was a social gathering without a harvest. \n\nMeskwaki Powwow\nFrom “Field Days” to Meskawki Powwow\nIn 1912\, the Chief appointed 15 men to plan for the next year. The appointed men decided to change the name from “Field Days” to “Powwow”. The first powwow was held at the present location. \n“Today’s” Meskawki Powwow\nToday\, the Meskwaki Annual Powwow is the only one of its kind in Iowa. It is a four day event used to celebrate the end of summer. As the color and intrigue of it all has drawn the most attention from the outside world\, the Meskwaki Annual Powwow features dancing\, singing\, handcrafts\, food\, games and fun. Although dance styles and content have evolved over the years\, the Meskwaki still consider the event a time of reaffirmation and hope\, of kinship and friendship\, and of celebration. The songs and movement of the dancers are dedicated to the enduring spirit of the buffalo. \nPipe Dance: This dance honors warriors for their bravery and heroism in times of conflict. \nShield Dance: In pantomime this dance depicts battle skill in hand to hand combat. This dance was adopted from the Southern Plains Indians in the 1940’s as a recognition of contact in earlier times with the Kiowa\, Cheyenne\, Arapaho and Comanche. \nShawnee Dance: Whenever the allied tribes came together for council or celebration\, they often exchanged elements of cultural value. The Shawnee Dance was given as a token of friendship to the Meskwaki from the Shawnee Tribe in Oklahoma. DESCRIPTION:2019 Grand Portage Rendezvous Days Celebration Pow Wow\n\nRate This Event\n \nJoin us for the Annual Grand Portage Rendezvous Days Celebration Pow Wow on August 9-11\, 2019 at the Grand Portage Monument Heritage Center in Grand Portage\, Minnesota. Also known as the Grand Portage Powwow\, the annual Grand Portage Rendezvous Days Celebration Pow Wow is sponsored by the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. The event is an American Indian cultural gathering focusing on dance\, song and family celebration. The Pow Wow includes traditional foods\, music\, and craft stands along with other events in the community. Over 350 dancers participated in last year’s Grand Portage Rendezvous Days Celebration Pow Wow. \n\nGrand Portage Rendezvous Days Celebration Pow Wow\nMid-day Grand Entry Saturday and Sunday are particularly inspirational and colorful as U.S. flags are raised to military veterans from Grand Portage\, and staff bearers lead dancers\, dressed in traditional regalia\, into the Pow Wow ring. Through the Pow Wow\, all people have the chance to experience Native American culture in a wonderful way. \nThe Grand Portage Band of Minnesota Chippewa holds its traditional Grand Portage Rendezvous Days Celebration Pow Wow adjacent to the Grand Portage National Monument the same weekend as Grand Portage Rendezvous Days. Wander through a world of teepees and vendors selling beads\, blankets\, clothing and other crafts. Try BBQ salmon on cedar planks cooked over an open fire pit in authentic fashion. The Nesika Illahee Pow Wow to everyone. \n\nNesika Illahee Pow Wow\nAll events for the Nesika Illahee Pow Wow take place on Government Hill (except the parade) – Follow signs for parking. The parade takes place on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. through downtown Siletz. The celebration will start with the crowning of this year’s Siletz Royalty on Friday at 6:00 p.m. All dance styles will enter the arena at 7 p.m. during the first Grand Entry. The Renfrew Museum and Park consists of 107 acres along the east branch of the Antietam Creek and includes beautifully restored buildings that date back to the 1790s when Daniel Royer purchased the land and built a tannery and gristmill. The reenactment has been held since 1980 and has been sponsored by the 139th PVI Co. F since the very beginning. \n\nRenfrew Pk Civil War Reenactment\nThe Renfrew Farm boasts farmland\, woodland\, and meadows and 50 acres of wilderness/wildlife preserve. Shaded camping for all military and civilians is located in a beautiful grotto area with a stream\, at the center of all thereenactment events. Participants are provided with fresh\, cold running water\, fire wood\, and modern bathroom facilities. \nLive a Day in the Life of a Civil War Soldier\nThe Civil War Reenactment isn’t all cannons and gunpowder. The event\, and others like it also give a glimpse into daily life for civilians and soldiers during the war. Spectators are encouraged to visit the camps — Union\, Confederate and civilian — for demonstrations of period dress\, food and medicine\, to meet the cavalry and their horses and to strike up conversations with in-character reenactors. You do not need to be a member of the particular tribe holding the powwow and you do not need to be a Native American in order to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Pine Point Powwow. Pine Point feathures “The Rez Parade\,” in which the ugliest\, most rusted out\, banged up\, pathetic looking vehicle in the parade wins the prize. These vehicles are also featured in a demolition derby Friday night prior to the powwow. \nPrincess & Brave Contest\nOne of the showcase events is the Princess and Brave contest\, where one girl and one boy are chosen as Princess and Brave of the powwow for being a good role model. The Princess and Brave chosen at this powwow will represent Pine Point throughout the following year at various events including other powwows. \nTraditional & Contemporary Food Vendors\nNobody goes hungry. Not only does the powwow feature a number of food vendors\, many of those food vendors are serving up helpings of traditional\, Native American food. Indian tacos (which is fry bread with ground hamburger\, lettuce\, onions\, tomatoes\, salsa and other taco fixings)\, as well as wild rice dishes\, walleye fingers and hominy (corn stew) will be playing pallets like a happy drum. \nCraft Vendors\nCraft booths will be found across the powwow grounds. The Fort Nisqually Brigade Encampment is one of the largest museum events of the year as reenactors set up dozens of tents as they arrive at the Fort. The annual encampment recreates the bustle and excitement of the historic visit of fur traders to the Fort in 1855. The Odawa Homecoming Pow Wow is a family-friendly event sponsored by the  Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians\, so bring the whole family! \n\nLTBB Odawa Homecoming Pow Wow\nThe Homecoming Pow Wow showcases the Odawa traditions\, ceremonial dress\, singing\, dancing and cuisine. While some of the dance styles and songs are contemporary\, many are very old and passed down from generation to generation. The Odawa Homecoming Pow Wow serves as a time to bring the Odawa people together and to bring the Native and non-Native communities together as well. \nOne of the highlights of the Pow Wow is the crowning of a new Miss Odawa Nation on Saturday. DESCRIPTION:2019 Como Mountain Man Rendezvous\n\nRate This\nEvent\n \nExperience a pre-1840s style gathering at the 35th Annual Como Mountain Man Rendezvous on August 10-17\, 2019 in Como\, Colorado. As a pre-1840s fur trade rendezvous re-enactment\, the Como Mountain Man Rendezvous strives in all aspects of this event to be true to that era in the Rocky Mountains. The Como Mountain Man Rendezvous is held about 6 miles south of the town of Como\, Colorado. \n\nComo Mountain Man Rendezvous\nComo is located in South Park\, an intermontane grassland basin. South Park is approximately 950 square miles of rolling hills and meadows at approximately 10\,000 feet altitude. This region was a favorite trapping and wintering spot during the fur trade era. The site has beautiful with views of the mountains both South and West. We hope we are lucky enough to continue to use this site for years to come. This will be the 32nd Como Rendezvous. DESCRIPTION:2019 Battle of Dry Creek Reenactment\n\nRate This Event\n \nThe 156th Anniversary Battle of Dry Creek Reenactment will be held on August 16-18\, 2019 at the Greenbrier State Forest off of Exit 175\, Interstate 64 near Caldwell\, West Virginia. A Tactical will be held on Saturday morning with Infantry\, Calvary and Artillery participating. Saturdays activities will also include a NCWAA Cannon Certification School\, Live Fire\, a Skirmish\, Military Ball/Concert and Night Firing of Canons. Camps will open to the public on Sunday at 10:00 am and will remain open through the battle. Sutlers will be on site selling reproduction and hand-made crafts\, period clothing and other unique items representing the Civil War. \n\nBattle of Dry Creek Reenactment\nLater that afternoon at 1:30 p.m.\, a “live fire” cannon target competition will take place. At 5:00 p.m.\, dinner will be provided for all pre-registered re-enactors\, followed by the Military Ball from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m.\, so ladies bring your dresses. The Public is invited to attend and participate in the Military Ball. The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community invites the public to attend their annual Wacipi (Pow Wow) in Prior Lake. This year’s Shakopee Powwow will feature vendors with arts\, crafts\, beadwork\, jewelry\, quillwork\, and traditional foods for sale\, including frybread\, wojapi (berry pudding)\, wild rice\, hominy soup\, buffalo burgers\, Indian tacos\, and much more. Grand Entries\, followed by intertribal and contest dancing\, will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday\, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday\, and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
