DESCRIPTION:2019 Dollinger Farm Civil War Reenactment\n\nRate This Event\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nThe 22nd Annual Dollinger Farm Civil War Reenactment on October 20-21\, 2018 at Dollinger Family Farms in Channahon\, Illinois has grown to one of the best in Illinois. Over 500 reenactors participate in this annual event. Relive history at the Dollinger Farm Civil War Reenactment as you experience the sights\, sounds and smells of war. There are live horses\, booming cannons\, and spectacular battle scenes. Experience a piece of American Civil War History at our “battlefield.” The Dollinger Farm Civil War Reenactment weekend is one that you won’t want you or your family to miss! Cancelled for 2019. \n\nDollinger Farm Civil War Reenactment\nOn the third full weekend (Saturday & Sunday) in October\, green farm grounds will fill with tents housing Confederate and Union soldiers. An Illinois pumpkin farm will become a Virginia creek on April 6\, 1865\, or some other famous Civil War Battle and Battlefield that determined the fate of our nation. As thousands of onlookers watch hundreds of reenactors armed with rifles and cannons portray carefully choreographed battles of the Civil War. \nPreparing for the Battle Reenactment\nBefore the Saturday afternoon battle commenced up the hill at the farm\, Union infantrymen prepare for what they know will be a long march to the battlefield and a tough battle. They pack up their ammunition pouches and fill their knapsacks with food and gear. As in the days of the real battle\, infantrymen never knew where they would end up following the battle\, so they carried everything with them\, including bedding. \n \nWhile they prepared themselves\, women and children lined the gravel path wearing period clothing\, waiting to cheer on the soldiers as they marched past. It was a tradition of the time to support the men and see them off. \nVisitors will want to arrive at least 1/2 hour early to walk up the hill to the Battlefield. The Battle scenes are the same on both days\, so choose whichever day fits your schedule. Tickets are required for the battle and are available online on the event site (see link at right). \nBattle Times\n2:00 p.m. – Saturday\n2:00 p.m. – Sunday\n* Allow at least 1/2 hour to walk up the hill to the Battlefield! Tickets are required for the battle (see below). \nAdmission\nWe charge a small entrance fee for the Battlefield Reenactment only. All other Civil War activities are free to the public. (We encourage online purchases by offering a discount of $1 off per ticket.) Day of the Battle Price: $8 for adult (age 12 & older); $6 for child (age 11 & below). Prices are $1 off when purchased online. \nReenactor Registration and Amenities\nIf you are a reenactor and interested in being part of this event\, please use our online registration information\, forms\, requirements\, and schedule. Firewood and straw is provided for the campsites\, food for the horses and powder for the battle. \nAbout Dollinger Farms\nThe farm has been in the Dollinger Family since 1852. It used to be the entire town of Dresden\, Illinois\, platted in 1836. Grandma’s house (located next to the Bee Barn) was formerly known as Rutherford’s Tavern and served as a stop on the stagecoach line. \nVisitors are invited to take a walk through history and visit the old Catholic Cemetery on the hill\, a place where many stories rest. This little part of the world also hosts one of the best Civil War Reenactments in the state. With over 500 reenactors\, this experience is sure to make you relive a piece of American History. \nLocation & Contact\nDollinger Family Farm\n7420 E. A village of tee-pees\, lean-tos and tents springs to life as the hard-bitten trappers and explorers gather to compete\, joke\, and trade with each other\, and to teach visitors what life was like when “Nevada” was just a unexplored region on the map. Rendezvous events are set up to be a challenge to any “Buck Skinner” who wishes to test his or her skill against any other “Free Trappers”. Public spectators are always welcome. \nLearn the satisfaction of throwing a tomahawk. Hear the solid “thunk!” as it lands in a log target. Taste savory stew from a dutch oven. Test your wits and resolve as you haggle with a fur trader in his tee-pee. Thrill to the crack of muskets at a mountain man target shooting contest. Watch your children bend a bow and loose an arrow for the first time. Learn what drove the first Europeans to explore the harsh desert that we call home at the Spring Mountain Free Trappers Mountain Man Rendezvous! \nSo mark your calendar today so you won’t miss the Spring Mountain Free Trappers Mountain Men Rendezvous near Las Vegas\, Nevada. \nTags: Spring Mountain Free Trappers Mountain Men Rendezvous\, Spring Mountain Free Trappers Rendezvous\, Spring Mountain Rendezvous\, Nevada Rendezvous\, Nevada Mountain Man Rendezvous \nView Other Nevada Rendezvous

Blazing the trail presented extraordinary difficulties – the route through the wilderness was a hunter’s trace that was too narrow for a wagon.  The task was to combine many trails into one continuous route by clearing underbrush and overhanging foliage. When Daniel Boone and his men reached the Kentucky River on April 1\, 1775\, they quickly moved to establish Kentucky?s second settlement–the site still known as Fort Boonesborough. \nLocation\nFort Boonesborough State Park\n4375 Boonesborough Rd.\nRichmond\, Ky. 40475 \nFor more information about Rifle Frolic and Frontier Skills at Fort Boonesborough\, contact Phone 859-527-3131 ext 216 or email alec.forman@gmail.com or ahenry@wittenberg.edu. \nMark your calendar so you don’t miss the next Rifle Frolic and Frontier Skills at Fort Boonesborough at Fort Boonesborough State Park in Richmond\, KY. \nTags: Rifle Frolic and Frontier Skills at Fort Boonesborough\, Fort Boonesborough Rifle Frolic\, Fort Boonesborough Frontier Skills \nView other Living History Events

NOTE: This event will not be held in 2019. Each year\, the Redcoats and Minutemen return to the grounds of the Red Horse Tavern (now named the Wayside Inn) to “battle for control of the key spot of the Boston Post Road.” Be here to witness the Battle of the Red Horse Tavern Reenactment which features several hundred reenactors from all over the region portraying American\, British and French soldiers from America’s War for Independence as they engage in two different battle scenarios for the public on the ample grounds of Longfellow’s Wayside Inn. \n\nBattle of the Red Horse Tavern Reenactment\nStart the day by listening to colonial music\, talking with reenactors\, visiting with sutlers\, observing cannon firing demonstrations and more. Then watch as the Colonial and British armies engage in a fictional battle for control of the Red Horse Tavern. \nEighteenth century taverns were important in the Colonies as a place to hear the news and other current events\, engage in commerce\, conduct militia drills and provide respite for weary travelers. The Red Horse Tavern\, sitting along the Boston Post Road\, the major east-west route to and from Boston and New York\, was crucial in that anyone or anything travelling into or out of Boston to/from the west would have to pass by its door. Which ever side controlled the Tavern could control the flow of supplies\, troops and information. \n \nAdmission: Free and open to the public.\nHours: 11:30 am – 4:00 pm\nParking: In the designated parking area for the reenactment. \nFor more information contact colonel@sudburyminutemen.org. \nThe Battle of the Red Horse Tavern Reenactment is sponsored by the 4th King’s Own\, the Sudbury Companies of Militia and Minute and our hosts at the Wayside Inn. \nAbout Longfellow’s Wayside Inn (Red Horse Tavern)\nLongfellow’s Wayside Inn\, a nationally significant Massachusetts Historic Landmark\, is the oldest Inn still operating in the United States and has been serving travelers along the old Boston Post Road for almost 300 years. What began as a two-room home in 1707\, the Howe family ran a successful tavern and innkeeping business on this site from 1716 to 1861. \nFrom its Colonial roots as an important stagecoach stop\, to Henry Ford’s historic preservation of the property as a living museum of American history from 1923 to 1945\, the Wayside Inn offers a unique experience of history. The Inn is the perfect backdrop for your own memory-making occasions\, as well as a unique casual touring and educational destination. \nPart of the Wayside Inn Historic Site\, Longfellow’s Wayside Inn offers informative exhibits as well as atmospheric dining and guest rooms for the visiting public. The Inn serves breakfast\, lunch\, and dinner to compliment your exploration of the property’s 125 scenic acres. \n \nOur Reenactor Friends\nThe Inn appreciates the involvement of the following community organizations who regularly come to the Inn either for historic activities\, special events\, or to work with the Inn on special projects such as the Battle of the Red Horse Tavern Reenactment. \nThe Sudbury Companies of Militia & Minute are historical interpreters of the Colonial Period\, specifically for the American Revolution during 1775 in Sudbury\, Massachusetts. They preserve American heritage and educate the public through reenactments\, performances\, speaker events\, a monthly muster\, a Colonial Faire\, parades\, and other educational\, fun events. \nThe Fourth Middlesex Regiment is a living history group dedicated to public education about the Revolutionary War era (1770–1780). Closely affiliated with the Sudbury Companies of Minute and Militia\, the Regiment has held re-enactments on the Wayside Inn property. \nThe King’s Own Regiment is a group of living historians portraying the lives of His Majesty’s Light infantry soldiers and their families during the American War for Independence. They were one of only two Companies of British Infantry on Lexington Green and then at the Old North Bridge in Concord we suffered the first British casualties of the war. Visit their website www.kingsown.net \n \nThe Sudbury Ancient Fyfe and Drum Companie is a teaching fife and drum corps dedicated to the preservation and perpetuation of the musical traditions of early America. During the summer months\, the corps performs at 8PM on Wednesday evenings on the lawn outside the Inn for guests\, and year-round the Ancients perform in parades\, reenactments\, fife and drum musters\, and other events large and small around the Massachusetts and greater New England area. In conjunction with the Sudbury Companies of Militia & Minute\, the corps hosts the musical portion of the annual Colonial Faire & Muster held on the Inn’s grounds on the last Saturday in September\, which features over 20 fife and drum corps throughout the afternoon. \nThe Molly Cutthroats is a group of female reenactors focusing on women in the 18th century. These woman did such a wide variety of things and we want to bring this richness to our hobby. From learning to use weapons to defend our homes\, to researching and portraying women as they were in all ways of life\, we hope to bring a more vibrant and realistic portayal of women to the Revolutionary War re-enactment hobby. \nThe Old North Bridge Hounds is one of 11 hunt clubs in New England. ONBH is registered with the Masters of Foxhounds Association (MFHA)\, and is run in accordance with the standards and guidelines of MFHA. ONBH engages in drag hunting\, not live foxhunting. While the hunt is based on the traditions\, etiquette\, and dress of foxhunting\, the people who comprise this group are relaxed and informal; they love horses\, hounds\, the outdoors\, and a good time. \nMark your calendar so you don’t miss the next Battle of the Red Horse Tavern Reenactment at the historic Wayside Inn in Sudbury\, Massachusetts. \nTags: Battle of the Red Horse Tavern Reenactment\, Revolutionary War Reenactment\, Organizers\, Sudbury Companies of Militia and Minute\, Sudbury Ancient Fyfe and Drum \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events

The reenactment celebrates the Anniversary of the Raid on Guyandotte that took place in 1861. Guyandotte Civil War Days focuses its programs on this historic event in an effort to celebrate and promote the rich heritage of the area. The re-enactment of the Confederate raid on Saturday is the highlight of this event. The re-enactment is a true re-enactment based on known historical facts concerning the November 10\,1861\, skirmish. \n\nGuyandotte Civil War Days Reenactment\nOn November 10\, 1861 the sleepy southern town of Guyandotte was firmly in Union hands. Confederate raiders struck suddenly and quickly\, capturing the Garrison and returning the village to the dominion of the Stars and Bars. That conquest was short-lived\, however. As the Confederates were leaving town the next morning with 110 prisoners in tow\, Union troops returned and took vengeance on what they considered a “seesech” (secession) town. By nightfall\, two-thirds of the village had been burned to the ground. \nToday\, the dirt roads are paved\, modern buildings have replaced many of the burned out frames\, and Guyandotte is a part of contemporary Huntington\, West Virginia. Come join us where history was made as the sights and sounds of the Civil War return as hundreds of re-enactors participate in “America’s greatest street battle.” \nEvent Features: \n\nTour the Historic Madie Carroll House built in 1810\nTour Historic Churches\nTour Historic Homes & Buildings\nCivil War Haunted History Tours of Guyandotte\nVisit Sutlers Row\nArts & Crafts\nFood Vendors\nBattle Scenarios\n\nGuyandotte Civil War Days Reenactment Mini Gallery\n\n \nGuyandotte Civil War Days Reenactment Schedule\nThis schedule is subject to minor revisions or additions. \nWednesday – Friday\nThese dates (beginning at 7:00 p.m.) are reserved for lectures\, plays\, and/or other presentations. Friends of Gibson Museum volunteers will underwrite reenactments of Civil War battle reenactments by the American Civil War Association (ACWA). This year\, in conjunction with the Lake County Historical Society (LCHS) and the Museums of Lake County\, the Friends group will at last be able to bring historical information to young people in an engaging\, informal way. Guests are encouraged to come in period attire to add to the fun. \nGibson Museum & Cultural Center has been joined in sponsorship this year by the Museums of Lake County\, which also operates the Historic Courthouse Museum in Lakeport and and the Historic Schoolhouse Museum in Lower Lake\, and the Lake County Historical Society which provided support for the founding of Gibson Museum prior to its joining the county system. \nAdmission\n$15.00 Adult\n$8.00 Children 7 to 12\nFree – Children 6 & under\nTickets to the event are on sale October 1 at all three county museums\, in Lakeport\, Lower Lake and Middletown. \nPublic Hours\nSaturday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.\nSunday: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. \n“Windows to the Civil War” Activities (Saturday & Sunday): \n\nThere will\, of course\, be reenactments of Civil War battles by the American Civil War Association\, with vintage weaponry and harmless black powder to provide theatrical smoke and noise\, at 1 and 4 Saturday and at 11 and 2 Sunday.\nVisit with the Union and Confederate soldiers. Ask questions and share their years of learning depicting living history at Civil War reenactments.\nEvent visitors can tour the encampments\, the weaponry\, the sutlers stores and a period village before\, after\, and in-between battles\, in addition to enjoying the speakers and demonstrations. Children especially seem to enjoy questioning the soldiers.\nLearn about Lake County’s connection to the war and California’s participation.\nHear the Confederacy explained\, and the myths that have grown up about it.\nMarvel at food fashions and availability from 150-200 years ago.\nLearn about women soldiers\, black and immigrant troops and more fascinating little-known facts.\nAn old-fashioned Contra Dance\, lauded as fun even for those who “don’t dance\,” will be open to all Saturday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. A donation of $5 is suggested to help compensate the Cobb Stompers musicians.\n\n \n“Windows to the Civil War” offers little-known facts from history. A raft of probably surprising information will be available to visitors to Gibson Museum’s upcoming Civil War event: \n\nCalifornia\, just eleven years old with a fewer than 380\,000 residents\, mustered a higher percentage of volunteers for the Union army than of the other 34 states. It is likely that an equal or greater number of Californians joined the Confederate forces\, though hard data is scarce.\nLake County was created five-and-a-half-weeks after the war was started by the firing on Ft. Sumter\, yet it had a significant role in the Civil War.\nFood\, its preparation and the trials of foraging for it\, was the subject most commonly included in soldiers’ letters home.\nConcerned and curious onlookers watched sham battles or actual bloody encounters of the war while noshing from their picnic baskets or on goodies bought from strolling “huxter women.” Ladies wore their Sunday best for the occasion.\n\nExplanations of these and similar facts will be offered to visitors of the third Civil War event sponsored by Gibson Museum & Cultural Center\, this year known as Windows to the Civil War. \n\ntext\nDean Enderlin\, in his role as local commander of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War\, will explain our local connection to the war.\nPhil Smoley will share his lifelong study of the Civil War with insights into the rationale of the Confederacy and the controversy over the issue of slavery or states rights.\nCarolynn Birilli brings surprises about 19th century culinary history and its effects on military\, civilian\, and enslaved populations.\nBarbara White will again offer the dressing demonstrations that have been a favorite of Civil War event-goers throughout northern California for decades\, including the past two years at the Mansion.\nVoris Brumfield will assume the persona of her great-great-grandmother\, a slave\, to explore the poplarity of the folk song “Goober Peas” and read the Proclamation of Independence.\nOther presenters will afford equally illuminating and entertaining fare.\ntext\ntext\n\nWindows to the Civil War School Day (Friday) \nSchoolchildren will be brought to the event site\, the Middletown Mansion Event Center\, Friday for a “school day” a day before the event opens to the general public. LCHS will draw on funds from a grant extended by Lake County’s Wine Alliance to provide buses for middle school and high school students. \nAmerican Civil War Association participants will be on hand for the School Day to play teacher to the about 300 middle-school and high school students expected to arrive by bus\, a donation of the Lake County Historical Society. \nGroups of students will rotate through eight outdoor “classrooms” formed of hay-bale seating where “instructors” from ACWA will teach them about weapons and uniforms\, marching and drilling\, women as soldiers\, telegraph communication\, women’s clothing\, camp hospitals and how a cannon is fired. \nLocation\nMiddletown Mansion Event Center\n20650 Highway 29\nMiddletown\, CA 95461\n(707) 263-4555 \nFor More Information\nCall 263-4555; Email info@friendsofgibson.com; Gibson Museum Website. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Windows to the Civil War in November at the Middletown Mansion Event Center in Middletown\, California. \nTags: Windows to the Civil War\, California Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments\, Encampments & Other Events

Tecumseh and his brother Tenskwatawa (commonly known as “The Prophet”) were leaders of a confederacy of Native Americans from various tribes that opposed US expansion into Native territory. As tensions and violence increased\, Governor Harrison marched with an army of about 1\,000 men to disperse the confederacy’s headquarters at Prophetstown\, near the confluence of the Tippecanoe and Wabash rivers.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nTecumseh\, not yet ready to oppose the United States by force\, was away recruiting allies when Harrison’s army arrived. Tenskwatawa\, a spiritual leader but not a military man\, was in charge. Harrison camped near Prophetstown on November 6 and arranged to meet with Tenskwatawa the following day. Early the next morning\, however\, warriors from Prophetstown attacked Harrison’s army. Although the outnumbered attackers took Harrison’s army by surprise\, Harrison and his men stood their ground for more than two hours. The Native Americans were ultimately repulsed when their ammunition ran low. After the battle\, they abandoned Prophetstown and Harrison’s men burned it to the ground\, destroying the food supplies stored for the winter. The soldiers returned to their homes. \nHarrison\, having accomplished his goal of destroying Prophetstown\, proclaimed he had won a decisive victory. He gained the nickname “Tippecanoe”\, which was popularized in the campaign song “Tippecanoe and Tyler too” during the presidential election of 1840\, which Harrison won. The defeat was a setback for Tecumseh’s confederacy from which it never fully recovered.[3][4] \nAmerican public opinion blamed the violence on British interference in American affairs through financial and munitions support for the Indians. This led to a further deterioration of relations with Britain and was a catalyst of the War of 1812\, which began six months later. By the time the US declared war on the United Kingdom in June 1812\, Tecumseh’s confederacy was ready to launch its war against the United States in alliance with the British. In preparation\, the Natives soon rebuilt Prophetstown. Frontier violence in the region would continue until well after the War of 1812\, although Tecumseh was killed in 1813 during the Battle of the Thames.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Tippecanoe Commemoration in November on Veteran’s Day weekend at the Tippecanoe Battlefield in Battle Ground\, Indiana. \n \nTags: Battle of Tippecanoe Commemoration\, Commemoration of Battle of Tippecanoe\, War of 1812 Reenactment\, Indiana Living History \nView other War of 1812 Reenactments & Other Events

During the 19th century\, the ruins of the fort stood at the center of inspiration for writers\, artists\, and travelers who visited the scenic and historic Ticonderoga peninsula. In 1908\, the Fort’s restoration and reconstruction began launching the earliest restoration effort in America. But\, there are a few things that first timers should learn to expect. Most instructions will come from the announcer so make sure you’re paying attention. Certain parts of a powwow ask the public to stand for events such as the grand entry\, flag song or honor songs. Some dances\, like intertribals and round dances\, are open to the public and some are not. The announcer will inform the public when they can enter the arena to participate in a dance. Cameras are allowed and welcome\, but occasionally you’ll be asked not to photograph certain events and if you’d like to stop a dancer and take a picture with them\, the proper thing to do is to ask their permission first. The dancer’s outfit is commonly referred to as “regalia” and for Powwow dancers this is a way of life and not a show for the public so respect for their regalia is also key. Please do not touch a dancer’s regalia unless invited. Other than that\, enjoy the music\, dance\, food\, art and celebration that are going on and make sure you have a good time. No worries! Read this Powwow FAQ.”]\nWhat is a Powwow?\nA Powwow is a gathering of men\, women and children from different Native American nations. Friends\, family and new people come together to sing\, dance\, share food\, present their craftwork and socialize. These cultural events preserve Native American traditions and heritage. \nWhat is a Veteran’s Powwow?\nThe respect shown to veterans is an integral part of the Native American culture. Native Americans have a rich history in the United States Military. The veterans of today are shown the same honor and respect as the warriors of times past. At Veterans Powwows\, Native and non-Native veterans alike are especially venerated for their service. \nI’m not Native American\, are Powwows for me?\nYes! Powwows are at their core family and community events and we want to share our culture and traditions with you! \nWhy are there Head Judges?\nPowwows added dance competitions as part of the celebration which began decades ago; where exceptional dancers were recognized with “prizes” like blankets and quilts. This tradition evolved to awarding money as the prize and has since become part of the celebration. Modern day Powwows like our Veteran’s Powwow invite dancers to come and celebrate\, but also to have the chance to showcase their skills and compete against one another which adds to the excitement of the event. Head judges are respected dancers hired by the Powwow committee to oversee the dance competition and insure fair judging of the dancers. \nWhat is an Arena Director?\nThe Arena Director is the individual responsible for keeping track of the singers\, dancers and dance competitions and any other live events happening during the Powwow. The Arena Director works with the announcer to keep the Powwow organized and well-coordinated. \nWhat is the Grand Entry?\nEach powwow begins with a Grand Entry or procession of dancers serving as the “bringing together of tribes.” Dancers enter the dance circle by age and style of regalia. They are guided by two lead dancers\, a male and a female\, who follow the presentation of flags. It was also known as Mud Island Fort because it sits on Mud Island (also known as Deep Water Island) on the Delaware River near the Philadelphia International Airport. During the American Revolutionary War\, the British Army bombarded and captured the fort as part of their conquest of Philadelphia in autumn 1777. \nDuring the siege\, 400 American soldiers held off more than 2\,000 British troops and over 250 ships that had been responsible for launching an endless barrage of cannonballs into the fort. After five days of holding off the British\, the American troops evacuated the fort after having successfully denied the British Navy free use of the Delaware River. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Siege of Fort Mifflin Reenactment on the second weekend of November at Fort Mifflin on the Delaware in Philadelphia\, Pennslyvania. \n \nTags: Siege of Fort Mifflin Reenactment\, Fort Mifflin on the Delaware\, Revolutionary War Reenactment\, Siege of Fort Mifflin Revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events
