SUMMARY:Old Fort Niagara Snowshoe Patrol
DESCRIPTION:Experience winter life in the 18th century at the Old Fort Niagara Snowshoe Patrol on February 4\, 2017 at Old Fort Niagara in Youngstown\, New York\, and witness a battle in the woods. \nThe Old Fort Niagara Snowshoe Patrol highlights life at a frontier outpost during the French and Indian War. Living History activities take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and include fur trading\, weapons demonstrations\, winter survival\, fire building\, games and winter clothing. \nAt 1:00 p.m. the Education Department of the New York State Office of Parks\, Recreation and History Preservation will present an illustrated history of the snowshoe and at 2:00 p.m. attendees will embark on a journey to the woods where a skirmish will break out between French and British troops. The day ends with complimentary hot chocolate for attendees. \nReservations are not necessary for the Old Fort Niagara Snowshoe Patrol\, but snowshoes are available on a first-come-first-served basis. There is no extra charge to take part in the event\, but general admission tickets to the Fort are required. SUMMARY:MTSU Indigenous Peoples Powwow
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the MTSU Indigenous Peoples Powwow on February 24-26\, 2017 at the Tennessee Livestork Center in Murfreesboro\, Tennessee. The three-day intertribal contest powwow includes native dancing and singing\, Lakota author Ron Colombe\, drummers Prairie Thunder and The Bandits\, flutists Ryan Molina and Jaime Chavez\, craft vendors\, oral tradition storytellers Dennis Claus and Grady Jones\, and some of the top-ranked dancers ranging from the Cree of the Canadian Tundra to Aztec Dancers of South America and the Incans of the Ecuadorian Andes. \nEvents planned supporting the dance include a frybread cookoff\, an indigenous forum on issues and successes\, a blues performance at JazzMaTazz by renowned Seneca blues artist Butch Mudbone\, an honoring of native and non-native veterans\, and a welcoming of the Nishiyuu Warriors. Saturday includes lots of special activities for kids. \nSpecial activities for kids on Saturday invite young ones to learn the Aztec dances and their cultural significance.
