SUMMARY:Old Fort Niagara Rebels and Redcoats
DESCRIPTION:Join the ranks at the Old Fort Niagara Rebels and Redcoats on June 3-4\, 2017 at Old Fort Niagara in Youngstown\, New York.  At the annual Old Fort Niagara Rebels and Redcoats event\, British and American troops from all of the Northeast\, Midwest and Canada converge on Old Fort Niagara to animate the fort as it was during the American Revolution. The event features living history camps\, musket and artillery demonstrations and large scale battle reenactments. \nThroughout the Old Fort Niagara Rebels and Redcoats weekend event\, there will be hands-on activities for children\, including 18th century games; presentations of map-making\, surveying\, military engineering and fortification; changing-of-the-guard ceremonies; demonstrations of soldier life; and 18th century merchants. \nAmong the reenactment units will be the Northwest Department of the Brigade of the American Revolution\, a nonprofit living history association dedicated to recreating the lives of the common American Revolution soldier\, and the 1st Regiment of Light Dragoons from the North West Territorial Alliance. \nOld Fort Niagara Rebels and Redcoats programs run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $12 for adults\, $8 for children 6-12 and free for kids 5 and under and fort members. \nThere is no extra charge for this event but general admission tickets are required. Only veterans are permitted to dance some veteran’s songs\, unless otherwise stated; listen to the MC for instructions.\nThe Flag Song\, or Indian National Anthem\, is sung when the American Flag is raised or lowered. Please stand and remove hats during the singing of this song. It is not a song for dancing.\nPowwows are usually non-profit. It depends upon donations\, raffles\, blanket dances\, etc. for support. Donations are encouraged as a way to honor someone. Any participant can drop money onto the blanket to aid in the powwow expenses. Support the committee and buy raffle tickets.\nCertain items of religious significance should be worn only by those qualified to do so. The event celebrates 150 years and more of Canadian History – featuring Living History Displays\, War or 1812\, Civil War\, Fenian Raids\, World War II reenactors and much more! \n[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7d3nzDL7us&width=540&height=333[/embedyt] \nRoyal Canadian Legion Branch 230\, Ridgeway is “Leading the Charge” to the Town of Fort Erie’s “Official Canada 150 Parade & Heritage Displays” from Friday\, June 30th until Sunday\, July 2nd\, 2017. \nAdmission Free – Public Welcome \nHours: 12 noon – 5:00 p.m. Daily \nThe parade is on Saturday\, July 1st\, starting at 11 am from the Ridgeway Community Centre heading north on Ridge Road North to the village centre. It will be officially started off with the playing of our National Anthem while members of the Geronimo Skydiving Team descend to the ground flying the “Largest Canadian Flag”. \nFollowing the parade\, everyone will gather for commemorative speeches from dignitaries and then a Canada 150 cake will be served. \nThe rest of the weekend includes over 16 Heritage Displays featuring the history of Erie Beach by the Heritage Arts Legacy of Fort Erie\, walking tours of the Ridgeway Battlefield by Canadian Author and Historian\, Dr. Peter Vronsky. \nThere are also plans to commemorate our veterans with a vintage military convoy and displays. \nHere’s a look at some the Canada 150 entertainment and perfomers we have lined up for you at Downtown Ridgeway Village Square; \nFriday\, June 30th: “Rock Canada 150” open mic\nSaturday\, July 1st: Lincoln Concert Band\, Kindred\, Casa El Norte\, The Remnants\nSunday\, July 2nd: The Fort Erie Legion Band\, Niagara Memorial Militaires Alumni Drum Corps\, Fifties in Color & The Howling Horns\nAll performances will be at the Ridgeway Village Square excluding “The Howling Horns” who will be at the Ridgeway Legion grounds for the Canada 150 Wrap Up Party. \nWear Your Red!!
