SUMMARY:Tecumseh Rendezvous
DESCRIPTION:Tecumseh Rendezvous at Tecumseh Oklahoma Frontier Days\nJoin us for the 3rd Annual Tecumseh Rendezvous on September 14-16\, 2017 less than one mile south of downtown Tecumseh\, Oklahoma at the intersection of Broadway and Highway 177. The Tecumseh Rendezvous takes place in conjunction with the Tecumseh Oklahoma Frontier Days Celebration hosted by the Indian Territory Rendezvous Club and is held on the third weekend in September. \nHistorical Background\nThe Rendezvous celebrates the early 1800s when this part of the western frontier was first explored by the young nation of the United States of America. We had recently acquired this land from the French. Many historic people traveled through this frontier including Randolph Marcy and James Wilkerson (a contingent of Pike’s expedition in 1806). \nThis area was made famous by the noted American writer\, Washington Irving\, during his journey through the Cross Timbers\, an area known for its dense forest which Irving characterized as a “forest of cast iron.” Irving was accompanied by Henry Ellsworth\, the new Commissioner of Indian Lands\, and two notable Europeans\, Latrobe and Count DePourtalés. During this time\, a rendezvous would occur\, an event where trappers and traders would gather along with Indian tribes and merchants to exchange goods for skins and pelts. Mountain men would look forward to these rendezvous as an annual opportunity to do business\, restock\, carouse and generally enjoy the company of their peers. Although formal rendezvous did not occur in Oklahoma\, these types of impromptu social gatherings certainly occurred whenever the eastern travelers met with representatives of Indian tribes in this rich and fertile hunting ground. It’s in this spirit that we hold a rendezvous in the timbers of Tecumseh to share with modern students of history this fascinating and tantalizing slice of time. \n– Pre-1840 Rules apply ti akkm trade goods included\n– No vehicles in camp\, 1 hour unload time\n– Firewood & Water Furnished\n– Perod dress required for primitive camp and traders row\n– Trade blanket allowed\n– Dutch oven cook-off and pot luck dinner on Saturday evening\n– Dogs on leash\, campers and public\n– Downtown Parage on Saturday\n– Events in town Wednesday through Saturday\n– Campers $20; Traders $40\n– Competition fee $5 per camper\n– No walk-in competitors \nAbout Frontier Days\nThe annual Frontier Days celebration occurs the third weekend of September with events scheduled from Thursday though Sunday. The purpose of this annual festival is to celebrate our rich and cultured past with those who call Tecumseh home and with our neighbors from around the state and region. The Tecumseh Redezvous was added to the festival in 2015. \nThis family-friendly festival includes Native American dancers\, live bands\, and 1800s characters in period costumes. Bring the kids to enjoy the small carnival\, peruse the entries in the annual car show\, dance in the street and take a walk through the Rendezvous – or as we like to call it – a walk through our historic past. \nCome to Frontier Days and the Tecumseh Rrendezvous to immerse yourself in the spirit of the Old West. Walk through the Rendezvous located less than a mile from town. Walk through the trees\, grab some grub from the food tent and interact with archery makers\, craftsmen and women selling and demonstrating their wares. Leather workers\, gun and archery experts and topographers\, to name a few\, together with the tents and accouterments\, provide the setting that transports and connects us to our past. \nTentative Schedule of Events: Rendezvous and Festival \nTHURSDAY\nTecumseh Rendezvous\nAll day \n5-7 p.m. Indian Taco Dinner – City Hall\n6:45 p.m. Coronation of Frontier Sweetheart & Frontiersman – City Hall\n7:15 -9 p.m. Gospel Sing Coordinated by Ministerial Alliance\nIn front of City Hall (Bring your lawn chairs) \nFRIDAY\nTecumseh Rendezvous – All day \n5-8 p.m. Arts & Crafts Booths\, Street Vendors\n7-9 p.m. Street Dance\, Live Local Band\n8 p.m. Rodeo \nSATURDAY\n6-7 a.m. Registration\n7:30-7:45 a.m. Race begins\nBarney Shirey Memorial 5k Run\nLearn more and register.\nSee 2015 info; link will be updated when info is available. \n6-10 a.m. Pancake Breakfast – Tecumseh American Legion\n9 a.m. – 8 p.m. – Arts & Crafts Show – City Hall\n10 a.m. Frontier Days Parade\nNoon-10 p.m. Carnival – Park & Broadway \nTecumseh Rendezvous\nAll day \n3:30 p.m. Pie Eating Contest\n8 p.m. Rodeo\, Tecumseh Round-up Grounds \nFor more information: \nRedezvous: Booshway Ophus Ward 918-906-2082\nFrontier Days: Tim Cannon 405-615-5921 cannonone@aol.com \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Tecumseh Rendezvous less than one mile south of downtown Tecumseh\, OK. \nView other Buckskinner Rendezvous

Gates are open to the public Saturday and Sunday 9a – 5p. A small gate fee applies. All proceeds from the gate go towards the upkeep of Fort Crevecoeur Park. \nIf you wish to be a participant in this event and are new to our gathering family please feel free to contact us for details; we would love to have you join us. \nExperience frontier life from 1680 to 1850 at the Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous. The two-day event brings together history enthusiasts and curious spectators to raise money and awareness of the fort’s history. \nLa Salle and his men built the original fort in 1680 while constructing a boat to travel the Mississippi River. According to historians\, the fort was burned down. The exact location of the original fort has been the subject of great debate since Peoria was founded. A reconstructed fort now commemorates Illinois’ first European-built structure. \nTwice a year in spring and fall\, the not-for-profit Fort Crevecoeur\, Inc. holds Rendezvous Days as a main fundraiser to maintain the fort and surrounding park. But the primary goal of the event is to give people a taste of life in the old days\, Hanse said. \nMen and women dressed as traders and Native Americans sold items like arrowheads\, walking sticks and beaded jewelry. Tents and tepees dotted the park and participants demonstrated trades like old-fashioned rope making and knife crafting. \nLocation\nFort Crevecoeur Park\n301 Lawnridge Dr\,\nCreve Coeur\, IL 61610\nPhone:(309) 694-3193 \nContact\nFort Crevecoeur Park Office\n309-694-3193 \n \nAbout Fort Crevecoeur Park\nFort Crevecoeur Park is located near Peoria and includes a reconstructed Fort Crevecoeur (about nine miles from the original location)\, a museum and a campground. French explorer Robert de La Salle (1643-87) helped the Peoria Indians build a fort in 1860 to defend themselves against the Iroquois. LaSalle made a deal with the local tribes to protect them from the Iroquois tribal league. LaSalle fostered good relationships with the tribes—Fort Creve Coeur wasn’t around too long though—this original site quickly became abandoned as Tonti left to fortify Starved Rock. Tonti’s mission to Starved Rock was to only end in failure though. However\, the Fort Crevecoeur’s seven man garrison quit their fort\, destroyed the fortifications\, and made a trek to Canada. \nMark your calendar today so you won’t miss the next Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous and Gathering at Fort Crevecoeur Park in Creve Couer\, Illinois. \nTags: Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous\, Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous & Gathering\, Fort Crevecoeur Rendezvous\, Illinois Rendezvous\, Illinois Voyageur Rendezvous\, Voyageur Rendezvous \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events\nView other Buckskinner Rendezvous
