Experience fur trade era life at the 29th Annual Sierra Muzzle Loaders Fall Primitive Rendezvous on October 17-20, 2019 at the Sierra Muzzle Loaders Club Site in Forbestown, California. This is a Family Oriented Black Powder Club with Activities for Kids and Adults. The Sierra Muzzle Loaders Fall Primitive Rendezvous honors the culture of the fur trade in the American West between 1800 and 1840, when free fur trappers and company brigades brought the year’s pelts to Rendezvous to trade for the necessaries of fur trapping. This is a primitive rendezvous. No flashlights or headlamps. Please keep your camp primitive.<\/p>\n

Visitors are welcome to walk through the Sierra Muzzle Loaders Fall Primitive Rendezvous encampments with dozens of primitive campsites, to see how the Mountain Men lived, cooked and dressed. Merchants and traders will be selling the goods that Mountain Men needed for trapping beaver and fox and trading with the Native Indians. The Mountain Men and Women will be pleased to share their skills with visitors and welcome all questions. All visitors are welcome at no charge. To stay in the spirit of the Mountain Man Rendezvous it is preferred that anyone visiting after dusk be in period dress. A “Rendezvous Clothes Closet” is available for visitors who wish to borrow period clothing. The Sierra Muzzle Loaders Fall Primitive Rendezvous is held on the third weekend in October each year, in the mountains near Forbestown, California, on New York Flat Road.<\/p>\n

Sierra Muzzle Loaders\u00a0<\/strong>holds two rendezvous a year at the Sierra Muzzle Loaders Club Site. There are three areas designated for camping: Primitive area (all visable equipment pre-1840), Open Camping area (a mix of primitive and modern camping equipment) and Tin Tipi (RVs and trailers). There is also an area set aside for Traders’ Row (for rendezvous).
\nYou’ll find several ranges to test your skills including hawk and knife, archery, rifle, pistol, trade gun, trade pistol and usually a number of specialty shoots.<\/p>\n

The Soper-Wheeler Timber Company offered the club a lease on 700 acres of land just up New York Flat Road from the previous site. This is a beautiful area in every way and the club feels they have finally come home. The site is perfect for all of the events and programs the club does and hosts. It is still a working tree farm on which Soper-Wheeler practices sustainable forestry. Club members work hard to be good stewards of the area and recognize how fortunate we are to have found such a beautiful home for our Sierra Muzzle Loaders Club Site.<\/p>\n

The third weekend in May is our\u00a0Spring Open Rendezvous. Primitive dress is encouraged but not required, except for those choosing to camp in our primitive camping area. Primitive dress is required at our Fall Primitive Rendezvous usually held the third weekend in October.<\/p>\n
