Join us for the 8th Annual French Colonial Days at White Oak Lake State Park on March 2-4, 2018 in Bluff City, Arkansas. Practice your shooting at the range on Friday. On Saturday morning take part in rifle and smoothbore competition shooting. In early afternoon, join the competition in fire startinf and tomahawk throwing. Enjoy late afternoon firearm or battle demonstrations and a potluck supper.\u00a0 All the scheduled activities take place on Saturday. Enjoy the park on Friday and Sunday.<\/p>\n

Meet re-enactors demonstrating the presence of the French and other European Colonials in this part of Arkansas during the 1780s. Re-enactors will be camped out throughout the weekend. Discover history through interacting with the re-enactors!<\/p>\n

The French Colonial Days at White Oak Lake State Park encampment and living history event commemorates Arkansas\u2019s colonial time period. All Colonial Tribal, English, Spanish, French, and American reenactors are encouraged to attend. Gather at the park Pavillion registration and information.<\/p>\n

Admission is free.<\/strong> The Park will provide water, firewood, toilets, and showers.<\/p>\n

French Traders in Arkansas<\/strong>
In 1783, a French trader named Fabre settled on a bluff above the Ouachita River and called the settlement \u201cEcore Fabre,\u201d which is the present city of Camden, Arkansas. In honor of Fabre, White Oak Lake State Park is hosting the Annual French Colonial Days event. Come discover history by interacting with the reenactors.<\/p>\n

About the Early Arkansas Reenactors Association (EARA)<\/strong>
The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism is partnering with the Early Arkansas Reenactors Association (EARA) to present the French Colonial Days at White Oak Lake State Park. The EARA members provide our encampment and demonstrate the everyday life skills of early settlers. Our Leslie Mountain Man Rendezvous is a sanctioned event of the Early Arkansas Reenactors Association. This group of dedicated men and women take reenacting seriously. They camp in period tents, dress in period clothing, and they live for the week just like the early fur traders and settlers did.<\/p>\n

Adjacent to Poison Springs State Forest, White Oak Lake State Park is the venue of the annual French Colonial Days at White Oak Lake State Park. The park lies on the shore of Lower White Oak Lake, 1,700 timber-filled acres for bass, crappie, catfish, and bream fishing. Watchable wildlife and birding opportunities abound here. The park offers regular sightings of great blue heron, egret, osprey, and green heron, and in wintertime, migrating bald eagles.<\/p>\n

Park facilities include 45 campsites; a store with supplies and gifts (open throughout the year); standard pavilion; picnic sites; and a playground. The visitor center includes exhibits. Bicycles can be rented here. The park marina offers fishing boat, pedal boat, canoe, and kayak rentals. A boat ramp provides access to the lake.<\/p>\n

Choose from the park’s hiking trails or almost 10 miles of mountain bike trails leading through a diversity of natural environments ranging from marshlands to Beech covered ridges. A variety of interpretive programs, including guided hikes, are offered during the summer.<\/p>\n
