Fife and Drum Corps are a musical group that consists of flutes or fifes and drums. Many Fife and Drum Corps events take place at Forts of different eras that dot the US (Fort Ticonderoga, Old Fort Niagra, etc.). Some fife and drum corps focus on interpreting a specific time period and spend some time portraying field musicians of the era at living history events. Still others perform together at musters, particularly in the Northeast, but also nationally.

The typical uniforms of the Ancient Fife and Drum Corps is a representation of some American Revolutionary War American military uniform. Often seen are tricorn hats, waistcoats, knickers or knee breeches, ruffled cuffs, neck stocks, buckled shoes similar those by the Continental Army and Marines. More recently, American Civil War uniforms have risen in prominence with uniforms and instrumentation based on actual Civil War units.
Patriots Day commemorates the Battle of Lexington on April 19, 1775. Membership in the Lincoln Minute Men is open to all interested individuals and families. Multi-generational family participation is encouraged, celebrated and commonplace in our ranks. The Lincoln Minute Men welcomes all people, regardless of age, gender, or town of residence.

The original Lincoln Minute Men included fifers (the Mason brothers, Joseph and Elijah, whose house stood at the Bloody Angle on the Battle Road), and Daniel Brown as their drummer. It has been said of the modern Fifes & Drums of the Lincoln Minute Men that they play in the Massachusetts style, with a Gaelic accent. Like all musicians, they play for the sheer joy of it. But they also see their music as a path back into history, to the times and lives of Joseph and Elijah Mason and Daniel Brown. So the modern Fifes & Drums perform only music from the era of the American Revolution. In the spirit of brotherhood, the Lincoln fifers have embraced the challenges and frustrations of performing with the same six-hole fifes that Joseph and Elijah Mason would have used. The rope-tension drums played by the Lincoln drummers would have been familiar to Daniel Brown, right down to the gut strings stretched across the bottom that give snare drums their crisp snap.

The Fifes & Drums of the Lincoln Minute Men invite you to follow them on their musical path back into history. Each year on Patriots’ Day weekend, the Lincoln Minute Men host “The Lincoln Salute: A Concert of 18th Century Fife & Drum Music,” featuring some of the best fife and drum groups from New England, the United States, and abroad.

View Paul Revere Capture Ceremony Details

View Lincoln Salute Concert of 18th Century Fife and Drum Music Details

View Lexington Patriots Day Parade Details

https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-150x150.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-300x195.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-768x500.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-669x272.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-320x202.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-871x400.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-540x272.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-460x295.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-300x214.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-177x142.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-700x441.jpg
"fusion-200":
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-200x130.jpg"},"fusion-400":
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-400x260.jpg"},"fusion-600":
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-600x391.jpg"},"fusion-800":
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Lincoln-Minute-Men-01-850x567-1-800x521.jpg
{"@type":"Person
Lincoln Minute Men

The Town of Lincoln, Massachusetts, re-established its company of Lincoln Minute Men in 1966, and charged it with the duty of keeping alive the history and the principles of the original minute men of 1775, with particular focus on educating youth. Today we have evolved into a repertory ensemble performing martial, dance, and folk music drawn from 17th, 18th, and early 19th century sources in America and Europe as well as contemporary compositions. Ultimately, MCV is about history and music, education and entertainment.

Members range in age and vocation from 16 up, students to aerospace engineers, school teachers to truck drivers. All participate on an avocational basis, balancing ‘real life’ with weekly rehearsals and over thirty performances yearly, and share a common love for music and performance. MCV is a registered federal 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, and we support our activities strictly through grants, donations, and performance fees.

View Meriams Corner Exercise Details

<h3 style="margin-top: 0; They preserve American heritage and educate the public through reenactments, performances, speaker events, a monthly muster, a Colonial Faire, parades, and other educational, fun events. The Sudbury Companies of Militia and Minute sponsor and participate in many Revolutionary War era events in the region. See the links below for more information about these events.

While you may see the Sudbury Companies of Militia and Minute reenacting or speaking at many one-time public or television events, the Companies annually sponsor the following events: Sunday greetings at Longfellow’s Wayside Inn
Twelfth Night Ball (January); April 19th march to Concord; Regimental Ball Contra Dance (April); Memorial Day Parade – Sudbury; 4th of July Parade – Sudbury; Colonial Faire and Muster of Fyfes & Drums (late September); Battle of the Red Horse Tavern (late October).

Patriots’ Day
Annually on Patriots’ Day (April 19), the Sudbury Companies of Militia and Minute march from Sudbury to Concord and Lincoln, Massachusetts. This event reenacts and commemorates the mission of our forefathers who did the same on April 19, 1775.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]
April 19, 1775, is one of the most significant dates in the formation of the United States of America. British Regulars had marched out of Boston to seize stores held in the countryside. While dispersing armed provincials on Lexington Green, British commander heard someone firing a gun – prompting the phrase, “The shot that was heard around the world.” The British Regulars fired on the provincials, killing several. Provincials and British Regulars would fight for the remainder of the day, known as the start of The American Revolution.

The commemorative march encompasses at least two phases. First, the Sudbury Companies of Militia and Minute march through Wayland, once Sudbury, and then from Sudbury to the Old North Bridge, Concord.

The Sudbury Companies welcome participants and onlookers on this most hallowed day, Patriots´ Day. Please contact us if interested. Review our history for Sudbury Companies’ role on April 19, 1775.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion]
[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”History of the Sudbury Companies of Militia and Minute”]
The present-day Sudbury Companies of Militia and Minute model themselves after the Sudbury militias of 1774 and 1775 – particularly with the South Militia commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Ezekial How Sr, Innkeeper of How’s Tavern (The Wayside Inn).

On April 19th, 1775, a messenger reached Sudbury between 3:00 am and 4:00 am bringing news that British Regulars had left Boston the evening before and were headed westward, presumably to Concord where military supplies were garrisoned. Each Sudbury contingent heeded the call and took the most expedient route to what is now called Battle Road.

Since the routes were different, each company had a different level of participation that day, but it seems the North and South Companies both headed for Concord’s South Bridge. Before reaching South Bridge, the Sudbury Companies learned it was held already by British Regulars and they were ordered to turn northerly and for the North Bridge, where other towns were assembling. At this time, Sudbury also learned that Colonel Barrett’s house was ransacked by redcoats.

“If any blood has been shed not one of the rascals shall escape!” Ezekial How Sr. On Punkatasset Hill, about a mile north of the Concord meeting-house, the Provincials were being constantly reinforced by the militia of Westford, Littleton, Acton, Sudbury, and other neighboring towns. Soon they would number around 450 bodies, far outmatching the British Regulars sent to hold North Bridge. When smoke was seen rising from Concord center, the Provincials marched on the bridge and drove the regulars away.

However, it is surmised that Sudbury did not engage British Regulars until a short distance beyond Meriam’s Corner, Concord. In this area, the fighting was heavy as the British Regulars retreated through a narrow gap and were vastly outnumbered. At this location, Sudbury was to lose its first resident to battle, Deacon Josiah Haynes. Later, in Lexington, the town would lose young Isahel Reed.

In the weeks to follow, townspeople from Sudbury would fight at The Battle of Bunker (Breed’s) Hill and then join the formal Continental Army as part of the 4th Regiment to fight in The Northern Campaign.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion]

<a class="blue" Our two major events are re-enacting the 10 mile march by the Sudbury Militia to the North Bridge in Concord, MA on April 19th (Patriots’ Day) and our annual Sudbury Colonial Faire and Fife & Drum Muster that is held on the last Saturday in September.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]
After the Sudbury Companies of Militia and Minute’s march to Concord Center on April 19th of each year, almost every Wednesday evening the Sudbury Ancients Fife and Drum Corp informally practices on the grounds of the historic Wayside Inn, beginning about 7pm.

The Sudbury Ancient Fyfe and Drum Companie performs traditional colonial-era battle music and songs dating from the 18th and early 19th century on the lawn in front of the Wayside (and in the Tavern) Inn from Patriots’ Day week in April through mid-September. Come and enjoy a traditional dinner of classic New England cuisine and watch the costumed musicians march through the main dining room at approximately 8pm! This group is a volunteer organization, so a call ahead is advised if you are planning a special visit.

New Recruits Information
Lessons are free of charge, but recruits are expected to appear promptly at practices, ready to work, and to practice on your own at home. With 30 minutes of daily practice even the most modestly talented student can make gratifying progress. If you are unable to attend practices, please call your instructor. If you are late, we cannot guarantee that there will be an opportunity to give you a lesson. Beginners are free to leave after their lesson, but are, of course, welcome to stay and observe the rest of the practice. A play list, music, and the schedule on which we will cover the repertoire is available at our web site, as well as at practices.

Insturments for beginners: We have a supply of inexpensive fifes and drumsticks, suitable for beginners, which you can purchase if you do not yet own an instrument.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion]

<h3 style="margin-top: 15px; After the rout, the British march on toward Concord where the militia had been allowed time to organize at the Old North Bridge and turn back the British and prevent them from capturing and destroying the militia’s arms stores. To celebrate[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]
Lexington was first settled circa 1642[3] as part of Cambridge, Massachusetts. What is now Lexington was then incorporated as a parish, called Cambridge Farms, in 1691. This allowed them to have a separate church and minister, but were still under jurisdiction of the Town of Cambridge. Lexington was incorporated as a separate town in 1713. It was then that it got the name Lexington.

In the early colonial days, Vine Brook, which runs through Lexington, Burlington, and Bedford, and then empties into the Shawsheen River, was a focal point of the farming and industry of the town. It provided for many types of mills, and in the 20th Century, for farm irrigation.

For decades, Lexington grew modestly while remaining largely a farming community, providing Boston with much of its produce. It always had a bustling downtown area, which remains to this day. Lexington began to prosper, helped by its proximity to Boston, and having a rail line (originally the Lexington and West Cambridge Railroad, later the Boston and Maine Railroad) service its citizens and businesses, beginning in 1846 (turned into a bikeway in 1992). For many years, East Lexington was considered a separate village from the rest of the town, though it still had the same officers and Town Hall. Most of the farms of Lexington became housing developments by the end of the 1960s.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion]

View Lexington Patriots Day Parade Details

town-of-lexington-massachusetts
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-150x150.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-300x200.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-768x512.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-1024x683.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-940x400.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-540x272.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-460x295.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-300x214.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-177x142.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-669x272.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-320x202.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-700x441.jpg
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-66x66.jpg"},"fusion-200":
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-200x133.jpg"},"fusion-400":
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-400x267.jpg"},"fusion-600":
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-600x400.jpg"},"fusion-800":
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-800x533.jpg"},"fusion-1200":
https://www.crazycrow.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Lexington-Patriots-Day-Parade-William-Drummond-FandD-13-1350x900-1200x800.jpg
{"@type":"Person
Town of Lexington Massachusetts

The Town of Lexington Massachusetts, is the location on April 19, 1775, of what many regard as the first battle of the American Revolutionary War.
