Join us for the 32nd Annual WAJ Primitive Rendezvous on June 5-9, 2019 at the WAJ Rendezvous Site in Caledonia, NY. The WAJ Primitive Rendezvous reenactment time period is 1640 \u2013 1840, known as the fur trading time of our history. You can be a French voyager out of Montreal, trapping the Adirondack Mountains in the 1600s to the Jeremiah Johnson of the Rocky Mountains.<\/p>\n

To All Newcomers:<\/strong> The Little Beard Club relies on a Special Usage Permit that we receive from the NY Genesee State Park Region to access our site utilizing the Greenway. If you are stopped by anyone, tell them that you are attending the WAJ Primitive Rendezvous. All posted speed limit signs must be obeyed. There is absolutely no parking on the Greenway. The continued access to our beautiful site depends on all our courtesy and adherance t he rules.<\/p>\n

\nSunday: Gate opens after the Closing Ceremony (aprox 10:00 a.m.)

\nPlan access accordingly, no exceptions!
\nLate arrivals must pack it in or stay in the parking lot.<\/p>\n

A vehicle pass (1-time use) will be issued.
\nThere is a one hour unloading time that is strictly enforced.
\nBe courteous to your fellow campers and get into your rendezvous persona as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n

All of these rendezvous ultimately included a major transfer of furs and goods to be traded for furs. In North America during the fur trade era, from the 16th century to the mid-19th century, this included the Voyageur Rendezvous and the Mountain Man or Buckskinner Rendezvous. Comparably speaking, the Rocky Mountain Man Rendezvous had a very short life-span, from 1825-1840. On the other hand, French Traders were active in the Great Lakes area as early as the 16th century, with voyageur rendezvous activity in the Grand Portage, Minnesota area between the 1730s and 1805.\r\n\r\nThe French started trading in furs in North America in the 16th century, the English established trading posts on Hudson Bay in present-day Canada in the 17th century, and the Dutch had trade by the same time in New Netherland. The 19th-century North American fur trade, when the industry was at its peak of economic importance, involved the development of elaborate trade networks and companies.\r\n\r\nThis fur trade became one of the main economic ventures in North America attracting competition among the French, British, Dutch, Spanish, and Russians. Indeed, in the early history of the United States, capitalizing on this trade, and removing the British stranglehold over it, was seen as a major economic objective. Many Native American societies across the continent came to depend on the fur trade as their primary source of income. By the mid-1800s, however, changing fashions in Europe brought about a collapse in fur prices. The American Fur Company and some other companies failed. \r\n\r\nIn canoe-based fur trade areas, one type of rendezvous is associated with the voyageur and canoe-based fur trade business which was largely in Canada and the states in the US around the Great Lakes, especially in Minnesota and Wisconsin. These Voyageur Rendezvous were generally at a transportation transfer point within in a wilderness route that could not be traversed in one season run by and including the fur trade of only a single company. The transfer was the dominant reason for holding the rendezvous although they included other meetings and revelry.\r\n\r\nRendezvous held in the western part of what is now the United States included a more diverse range of activities than their northern counterparts. Such a rendezvous might include several fur trading companies, and array of fur traders, mountain men and native Americans. A substantial amount of deal-making and trading occurred at these rendezvous. These were often a temporary \"town\" of sorts with businesses which offered the fur trade workers and participants ways to spend their money on supplies and revelry. The North American fur trade in the west is identified with these large annual Mountain Man rendezvous that were held in various Rocky mountain locations from 1825 until 1840. One of the largest of these was the Rendezvous of 1832. The Little Beard Club (LBC) is an offshoot of the York Sportsman club. LBC hosts its annual WAJ (What About Joey) Rendezvous 1st full weekend in June. LBC has 100 members from all parts of Western New York; being international with members from Canada.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nIn 1986 there was quite a few members that shot side lock black powder guns. In October of 1986 we had our first Black powder shoot (York Mountain Man Shoot \u2013 Little Beard). Within 2 years most members were doing the primitive part of black powder.<\/p>\n

Our first meeting was at Steell Fullers house in Fowlerville (1987). The 1st WAJ(What about Joey) Rendezvous was in June of 1987. Steel Fuller ran and won Booshway for the 15th Eastern Rendezvous in 1991. Little Beard Club was the host club. Bill Decker ran & won the 1995 Eastern Rendezvous & LBC was again the host club. After that being an LBC was something to be proud of.[\/su_spoiler][\/su_accordion]<\/p>\n
