The Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation will host the reenactment event on the original fields in Middletown, Virginia where the original battle was fought on October 19, 1864. Battles will take place on Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds benefit preservation of the Cedar Creek Battlefield. Hosted by the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Camps will open at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.<\/strong><br \/>\nRegistration fees are listed below for adults and teens 13 years of age and older. Children 8 to 12 years of age are \u00bd price. Children 7 and under are free. Creek Battlefield is the site of a pivotal Civil War battle fought between the armies of Confederate General Jubal Early and Union General Philip Sheridan on October 19, 1864. This engagement ensured Northern control of the Shenandoah Valley and guaranteed the reelection of President Abraham Lincoln.<\/p>\n<p>The Cedar Creek Battlefield hosts a reenactment of the battle each year on the 3rd weekend of October. Our Visitor Center and Gift Shop overlooks the Cedar Creek Battlefield and the Belle Grove Plantation, providing picturesque scenery and unprecedented photo opportunities. Civil War reenacting is one of the most popular and exciting hobbies that people of all ages can pursue. This hobby takes you back in time to a period when life was made up of ideals. As a reenactor you will witness the human side of the war as Union soldiers meet Rebel soldiers in battle. Smell the bacon, eggs, and coffee cooking on an open fire. Feel the anticipation as the men prepare for the battle. Sense the anticipation in the air as battle orders are given. Feel the excitement as the men in blue fall in &#8211; marching to the beat of the drum with expectation of adventure and glory.<\/p>\n<p>When the battle reenactment is over, as you watch dinner being prepared, reminisce about your experiences and share your observations about the status of the battle. In the evening, sit around the fire and listen to the music from all around. The reenactment season beings in March and ends in November. The reenactment takes place about one weekend a month. They are held in the local area as well as at actual Civil War Battlefields. Camp is setup on Friday night but, reenactors who cannot come on Friday, may come on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>During the reenactment season, we may participate with other units in a living history encampment. This encompasses the setting up of camp to demonstrate and interpret this period of history for the spectators. The 11th takes part in local parades. Marching and shooting for the entertainment of the public. This is also a fundraiser for our unit.
