Don’t miss the 8th Annual Blue River Longrifles 1700-1890 Indoor Trade Show on November 2-3, 2019 at the Hancock County 4H Fairgrounds in Greenfield, Indiana. There will be rendezvous and muzzle loader related items including leather, knives, jewelry, clothing, accoutrements, books, powder horns, wood tables and boxes, antique guns and more. We\u2019ll be at the Hancock County Fairgrounds, in the heated Sheep barn. Traders can spend the night. There will be plenty of parking available.<\/p>\n

This was literally when there were American colonies, later becoming states. The Colonial Market Fair would then by that same definition be an 18th Century Market Fair. The early market fairs in the first settlements, such as Jamestown and Williamsburg, were allowed and regulated by law. The Williamsburg digital library has a lengthy article written in 1955,\r\nEighteenth Century Fairs<\/a> by Mary R. M. Goodwin that represents a collection of these early laws, showing the transition of the earliest fairs to more and less regulated fairs, that could be said are the colonial, eastern version of what would become the Rocky Mountain fur trade and western redezvous between 1823 and 1840.\r\n\r\n[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=\"Read more\"]\r\nThe colonial fair was first and foremost a market \"for the sale and vending of all manner of cattle, victuals, provisions, goods, wares, and merchandizes.\" Prizes, \"or bounties,\" were sometimes offered for the best stock and poultry. The fair was also a place where men met to make and pay debts. Land, houses, storehouses, and personal property were offered for sale at fairs - privately and by public auction. Occasionally, a lottery was drawn at a fair.\r\n\r\nA controlling idea regarding the earliest 18th century market fairs seems to be to maintain the control that England had on the flow and taxing of manufactured goods into America. Ultimately this would fail as America was too large and growing larger. Colonial boycotts of these finished English controlled goods (even tea which though not made in England was controlled by them) led to the development of early American manufacturing efforts. The Blue River Longrifles, Inc. were founded in 1983. We are a Charter Club in both the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association, and the National Rifle Association. The object of the club is to encourage and advance organized shooting of Muzzle Loading Firearms, and to promote higher standards of sportsmanship, safety, and good fellowship among those who participate in such sports.<\/p>\n

We hold monthly shoots on the fourth Sunday of each month with the first relay beginning at 1:00 P.M. Our monthly shoots are governed by the rules and regulations of the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association. Our Range is located near Morristown, Indiana, and you are cordially invited to attend the monthly shoots. The rest of the month the Range is reserved for our members to practice their marksmanship with MUZZLE LOADING FIREARMS.<\/p>\n
