Experience the sights and sounds of history at the 41st Annual Battle of Natural Bridge Reenactment on March 3-4, 2018 at the Natural Bridge Battlefield Historic State Park in Tallahassee, Florida. Natural Bridge Battlefield Historic State Park, in partnership with the Natural Bridge Historical Society, Inc. (CSO) invites you to the annual reenactment of the Battle of Natural Bridge, the second largest Civil War battle in Florida. The event commemorates the anniversary of the Civil War battle which took place 12 miles south of Tallahassee.<\/p>\n

Battle of Natural Bridge Reenactment<\/h4>\n

Saturday, you are invited to mingle with civil war reenactors and observe a Confederate-Union skirmish, cavalry demonstrations, artillery shows and medical treatment examples. Sunday, will be official Opening Ceremonies and Dedication, followed by a full-scale reenactment of the Battle of Natural Bridge at 2:30 p.m. Refreshments, including hamburgers, hot dogs, snacks and soft drinks will be available for purchase both days beginning at 12:00 p.m. Parking is available.<\/p>\n

Admission<\/strong>
Parks entrance fees will be waived for the event. The CSO will accept donations of $3.00 per person for adults and $1.00 for children under the age of six.<\/p>\n

Camping<\/strong>
* Due to site limitations there is no modern camping or RV parking\/camping allowed. Authentic military and civilian reenactor camping only in assigned areas of the Park.
* Civilian reenactors must submit an application for camping in the civilian camp prior to the event and will be assigned a space, where avaialable, on a first come-first served basis.
* Use of existing fire pits only – no unauthorized digging on Park grounds. * No pets are allowed.<\/p>\n

Reenactor Information:<\/strong>
* All reenactors must register upon arrival and agree to the authenticity and safety guidelines for the event.
* This event is primarily a battle reenactment.
Non-military activities should be confined to the civilian camp and be period correct.
* No armed cowboys, gunslingers, sheriffs, marshalls, or unauthorized provosts are allowed.
* To ensure public safety military reenactors must be part of or assigned to an organized unit; civilian reenactors may not carry firearms (pistols, shotguns, or rifles) as part of their impression.
* Artillery by invitation only, no Calvary due to site restrictions.<\/p>\n

Directions:<\/strong> Starting at the capitol building in Tallahassee, Florida, travel south on SR 61\/363 (Monroe Street\/Woodville Highway) approximately 10 miles to the community of Woodville. As you reach the elementary school at the southern edge of Woodville, turn left onto Natural Bridge Road. Travel approximately 6 miles east to the Battlefield.<\/p>\n

\"Battle<\/p>\n

About the Battle of Natural Bridge<\/strong>
Early on the morning of March 6, 1865, shots rang out in southern Leon County where the St. Marks River temporarily flows underground then reemerges, thus forming a natural bridge; these shots marked the opening skirmish of the Battle of Natural Bridge. Over the course of the day, Union troops, including the 2nd and 99th United States Colored Troops (USCT), attempted to charge over the Natural Bridge. Each charge was repulsed by artillery and small arms fire by the Confederate defenders. By days end, Union forces retreated to the protection of the Federal fleet at St. Marks. Tallahassee became the only Southern Capital east of the Mississippi River not to succumb to military capture by Union Troops during the Civil War.<\/p>\n
