Join us for our annual Black Hills Rendezvous on May 30 – June 3, 2018 at Flag Flag Mountain\/Hughes Draw, northwest of Hill City, South Dakota. At the Black Hills Rendezvous, a primitive camp, club members show what life was like in America before 1840. The public is welcome, but to partake in Black Hills Rendezvous events like black powder shooting, primitive archery and knife and tomahawk throwing, historical clothing is required. As long as someone makes a good-faith effort to give the appearance of pre-1840s mountain man attire, that will allow them to participate. The Muzzle Loaders of the Black Hills, who host the annual event, are always happy to introduce new people to our hobby have extra period-correct clothes and gear to loan, sell, or give away.<\/p>\n

Weather & Elevation:<\/strong>
\nThis time of year in the Black Hills is known for warm days and cool nights, so please be prepared for any and all variations of weather. Elevation of the Black Hills Rendezvous is approx. 6,400 ft.<\/p>\n

\n*Primitive archery *Knife and Hawk Throwing
\n*Trail Walks & Treks *Flint & Steel Fire-Starting
\n*Childrens’ Games *Ladies’ Tea \/ Men’s Muster
\n*Dutch Oven Cooking Demonstations & Contests
\n*Period Clothing Seminars *Crafts Demonstrations<\/p>\n

Horses & Dogs:<\/strong>
\nHorses are welcome at the Black Hills Rendezvous, and a separate horse camp area will be provided. Horse activity will be primarily restricted to horse camp area only. If travel through main camp is necessary, horses must be at a walk at all times for safety. The Black Hills offers many accesible trails for your riding pleasure, so be sure to check out the South Dakota Dept. of Tourism for horse trail info. Please contact the state of South Dakota for rules and regulations of coggins requirements, etc. Certified Weed-Free hay is required.<\/p>\n

Dogs are also welcome, but must be on a leash at all times. Controlled behavior is the responsibilty of the owner, and quiet dogs are appreciated by all.<\/p>\n

Permit:<\/strong> This event is operated under a special use permit on the Black Hills National Forest.<\/p>\n

Camping or Facility Information<\/strong>
\nRestrooms provided. Plan ahead for weather changes.
\nBoth rustic and modern camping areas, with separate horse camp.
\nLimited firewood and potable water will be provided. Scrub wood is also available on-site, however no cutting of live trees will be permitted. Fires must NOT be left unattended, and an emergency water bucket near fire must be present at all times.<\/p>\n

\nFlag Flag Mountain\/Hughes Draw, northwest of Hill City, South Dakota.
\nDirections from Hill City:
\nWest on Deerfield Road for 19.2 miles
\nNorth on County Road 189 (S. Rochford Road)
\nNorthwest on Flag Mountain Road for 5.9 miles
\nSouth on Forest Service Trail #129 about 1\/2 mile to parking lot<\/p>\n

Emergency Services:<\/strong>
\nLimited medical services will be available, and cell phone phone service is extremely limited.<\/p>\n

[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Rendezvous Guidelines:”]\n\u00b7 A \u201ccamp\u201d consists of up to 2 adults (18 or older) and children.
\n\u00b7 Any additional adults must register as an additional camp.
\n\u00b7 Camping is designated as \u201cPrimitive\u201d and \u201cModern\u201d. The Primitive camp is restricted to persons in period dress with pre 1840 shelters. (Prescription eyeglasses are allowed) Please help us keep the spirit of the rendezvous by wearing your period dress and gear at all times. Keep all modern conveniences hidden or covered up. All drinks must be in period containers.
\n\u00b7 Vehicles are allowed in camp to unload and load, and are limited to one hour. Please unload, drive out, and return to set up.
\n\u00b7 Take responsibility for your camp, children, pets, and guests.
\n\u00b7 Pets must be leashed and under control.
\n\u00b7 Do not cut live trees. Limited water and firewood is available.
\n\u00b7 Campfires must not be left unattended.
\n\u00b7 Remove and replace the sod for your fire pit. When breaking camp, scatter fire pit rocks and return firewood to central piles.
\n\u00b7 Keep safety in mind at all times. No loaded firearms allowed in camp; knife and hawk throwing in designated areas only.
\n\u00b7 Youngsters must have adult supervision when practicing shooting or knife & hawk throwing.
\n\u00b7 No alcohol or smoking in shooting areas.
\n\u00b7 All local, state and federal laws are in effect.
\n\u00b7 You are expected to take all trash with you when you leave. Please do not put diapers, trash or garbage in the port-a-potties.
