Located in Riverton, the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous is the only reenactment on the actual untouched, historic site where the &#8220;1838 Rendezvous&#8221; took place! Then the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous begins with black powder shooting, hawk &#8216;n knife competitions and numerous seminars centered around the fur trapping era. And &#8216;Traders Row&#8217; is a great place to bargain for a souvenir.<\/p>\n<p>The organizers of the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous pride themselves on having a &#8220;beginners&#8221; or &#8220;teaching&#8221; rendezvous with seminars offered. Family day activities for kids and &#8220;non&#8221; participants in the rendezvous. There are seminars on fire starting with flint and steel, dutch oven cooking, flint knapping, Teepee set-up and organization, various trapping methods, historical information about the era, and many others.<\/p>\n<p>The 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous is open to the public and family friendly. For those &#8220;beginner&#8221; rendezvousers, who are looking to join a richly rewarding and fun event\u2026 you will not disappointed! Lending the modern event a particularly historic air, the camp used today is the same one used over 150 years ago. Pitch your teepee or modern tin-teepee under the same cottonwoods as the real mountain men did (or update tradition by staying in an area hotel). Then venture out for knife- and tomahawk-throwing contests and demonstrations, crafts, kids games and campfire singing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Support the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous<\/strong><br \/>\nThe annual reenactment of the 1838 Rendezvous is part the effort to draw attention to the history and romance of the area. Reenactors, or &#8220;buckskinners have done their part for the site, but the organization is presently in need of more members who are creative, energetic and love history. They need active members who care how the world sees Wyoming&#8217;s ancient landscape and early history. &#8220;We have a lot to do and we need help, said an association member, &#8220;People come from all over the world to this site.
