SPECIAL PURCHASE: Hand Prepared Deer Rawhide
READY TO TURN INTO BRAINTAN BUCKSKIN!!! This is very special deer rawhide! Hand fleshed and grained by master tanner Dave Chambers, it is ready for braining and working into brain-tan buckskin. This means that a great deal of the work has already been done and you just need to add the brains and soften them up! Hides vary but are typical in size (and we don't really have measurements on them). They are dried without being stretched so they are in various "unusual" shapes, as shown in the photo, but when wet & processed they will stretch out much larger. Normally $95, we offer them at $10 off through a special purchase! Product Details

The Rise of Pendleton Woolen Mills as the Primary Trade Blanket of Contemporary Native Americans
Since Native Americans began trade with Europeans, few items have become more closely identified with their cultures as the American Indian trade blanket. This trade blanket is a machine-woven blanket produced for the American Indian market. Prior to their introduction, Native Americans provided for themselves with native or natural means. Historically, "wearing robes" were created from animal hides and fur, woven plant fibers, and ultimately fabric woven by hand from wool or cotton.
European contact meant the introduction of trade goods, altering the need for traditional forms of clothing and textiles. The "trade blanket" replaced the hide robes and hand woven blankets.

Early American Tinware: From Eastern Colonies to The American West
Tinware is strong, easily shaped, solderable, and non-toxic. The corrosion resistance of tinware, especially against food products, accounts for its popularity for use as cookware and eating utensils such as plates and cups.
The emerging 18th century middle class wanted to enjoy things traditionally reserved for the upper classes. Upper class amenities emulated in tin reflected this new status. The new world was also a rough and tumble place. The durability (and light weight) of tin allowed for shipping over rough roads and great distances. Tinsmiths, like Edmond Pattison, colonial America's earliest tinsmith of record (living in Connecticut) emerged to meet this demand.
