2018 Old Fort Niagara War of 1812 Grand Encampment
Experience early American history at the Old Fort Niagara War of 1812 Grand Encampment on July 28-29, 2018 at at Fort Niagara State Park in Youngstown, New York. This year only. The Grand Encampment will be the largest 1812 event yet seen at the Fort. Among War of 1812 reenactments, one event is selected each year to be designated the “Grand Tactical” — the one event that every War of 1812 reenactor will strive to attend.
As such the War of 1812 Grand Tactical at Old Fort Niagara is destined to be the largest War of 1812 military reenactment this year — US and British land forces; naval vessels, personnel and artillery; Native allies — from all over the US, Canada and beyond.
The Old Fort Niagara War of 1812 Grand Encampment will feature a full and varied schedule of activities from 9:30 to 5:00 each day, including military and camp life, soldier and sailor skill demos, weapon and uniform demos, daily opposed sides tacticals, a select group of historical vendors selling their wares, Regency country dancing, and a guest speaker Saturday afternoon.

About Old Fort Niagara
Old Fort Niagara has dominated the entrance to the Niagara River since 1726. In American hands since 1796, Fort Niagara was recaptured by the British in 1813, and then ceded to the US a second time in 1815 at the end of the War of 1812. Today, visitors can discover an amazing collection of military architecture, including the oldest building in the Great Lakes region: the “French Castle.” The fort is a New York State and National Historic Landmark and hosts several reenactments each year.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]
Old Fort Niagara offers a chance to step back in time to an era when great empires struggled for control of North America. Visit original 18th century buildings, enjoy incredible views and take part in exciting living history programs. If you visit during one of our special events, you’ll meet reenactors who faithfully recreate the lives of past Fort garrisons and depict the struggles that led to the birth of the United States and Canada.
