2018 Battle of Newton Civil War Reenactment

Experience living history at the 18th Annual Battle of Newton Civil War Reenactment on October 6-7, 2018 at John Hutton Park in Newton, Alabama. The roar of cannons will tear the silence of an afternoon in central Dale County as Civil War reenactors gather at John Hutto Park for a recreation of the Battle of Newton. The muskets will be filled with only powder, but the passion of participants relives a piece of history from the Civil War in March 1865. The annual Battle of Newton Civil War Reenactment is sponsored by The Battle of Newton Society, Inc.

Battle of Newton Civil War Reenactment

Visit the Confederate and Union camps and living history exhibits. Watch demonstrations of Infantry, Cavalry and Artillery, and battle reenactments both days. Meet the reenactors and watch a military field hospital in action. Attend the period church service and Ladies’ Tea. Enjoy live music and entertainment both days from the stage. It’s a great family-friendly event, so bring your kids for a weekend of fun and period games for all ages. Vendors will offer food and drink and a variety of merchandise from hand-made knives to period clothing.

About the Battle of Newton
In 1865, a band of union soldiers marched north from Marianna for the purpose of ransacking Newton and burning the courthouse, but they met unexpected resistance from the town’s home guard. Three union soldiers where killed and several were injured.

Vendors can set up on Friday before the event and/or before 8:30 am on Saturday. You will be assigned a vendor number and a spot. First to sign up get the best spots. Please enclose $25.00 check or money order payable to Battle of Newton Society, Inc. The fee will be $35 if advance
