2018 Winter Militia Muster at Fort Watauga

Join the ranks at the annual Winter Militia Muster at Fort Watauga on February 4-5, 2017 at at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park in Elizabethton, Tennessee. The Winter Militia Muster at Fort Watauga is a living history event where reenactors with the Washington County Militia will bring to life a variety of colonial-era characters including hunters, farmers, and backcountry gentry.

Winter Militia Muster at Fort Watauga

The militia members will be set up in and around the Fort providing a wide variety of educational and entertaining opportunities, portraying what life was like on the 18th century colonial frontier.

Each of the Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park cabins will be open for visitors to come in and interact with the reenactors. There will be demonstrations of some of the traditional colonial and frontier skills. Among the skills militia members will demonstrate are open hearth cooking and black powder weapons demonstrations. A full line-up of weekend events will make the Winter Militia Muster at Fort Watauga fun for the participant and visitor alike.

Hours:
Saturday 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Sunday 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Because the Winter Militia Muster at Fort Watauga takes place outdoors, it is subject to cancellation if the area is hit by severe weather.

Visit Fort Watauga and step into a colorful Revolutionary world. Walk among living historians who share our past through talks, displays, and demonstrations of 18th century life. Come and learn about the frontier militia and the part they played during the War for Independence!

Saturday & Sunday ongoing: Open Hearth Cooking, Militia Drill & Training, 18th Century Publick House, Artillery Firing Demonstrations, Storytelling, Hand Sewing, Flintlock Rifle & Musket Firing and Much More.

11:30 – Artillery Demonstration
1:00 – Militia Drill/Tactical Demonstration
2:00 – Artillery Demonstration
3:30 – Militia Drill
4:00 – Retiring the Colors, Event Closed

Sunday
10:00 – Raising the Colours
11:00 – Worship Service
1:00 – Artillery Demonstration
2:00 – Militia Drill/Tactical Demo
