2019 Indian Council of Many Nations Winter Pow Wow
Celebrate Native culture at the annual Indian Council of Many Nations Winter Pow Wow on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Missouri National Guard Armory in Kansas City, Missouri. The ICMN Pow Wow features traditional dancing, drumming, singing and other activities. NOTE: We have been advised today (FEB 16) that the pow wow has been canceled due to the weather. It’s a family friendly event, so be sure to bring everyone! Vendors will line the gymnasium walls to offer various items such as beadwork, drums, leather clothing and jewelry made of sliver or other metals. Food items that will include pow wow favorites like fry bread, Indian tacos and buffalo hamburgers.
Organizers expect nearly 2,000 to attend the Indian Council of Many Nations Winter Pow Wow on Saturday, including those who traveled from Oklahoma, South Dakota, New Mexico, Iowa and Nebraska.
The festivities will begin with Gourd Dancing at noon, followed by Intertribals and Specials. A dinner break will separate the afternoon and evening dance sessions. The evening program will begin with the Grand Entry, led by a color guard that consisted of a staff made from eagle feathers, the American flag, the Council of Many Nations flag and flags representing the armed forces as well as the POW-MIA flag. Behind them, the head dancers, several Indian princesses representing different tribal organization throughout the region, and the other dancers dressed in their beautiful regalia. Military veterans and others will also dance to honor a relative who had served in the armed forces.
