2019 OU Spring Powwow

The spring contest powwow is hosted by OU’s American Indian Student Association to celebrate indigenous culture. The OU Spring Powwow is considered the “longest running student led powwow in the country”, beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Over a thousand people are expected to attend from across the nation, providing a tremendous opportunity for all OU students and visitors to learn about indigenous peoples.
OU Spring Powwow
The powwow is a cultural event where many tribes and indigenous peoples will gather and celebrate life and fellowship together. For some native people, it is a spiritual time where Creator is thanked for the blessings in their lives.
The event will be free, with a gourd dance at 1 p.m., supper served at 5 p.m., crowning of this year’s Mr. and Ms. Indian OU at 4 p.m. and a grand entry at 6 p.m. Attendees are advised to remain respectful of the various cultural activities and ceremonies that will take place and to dress modestly.
