2019 Minot State University Spring Powwow and Honor Dance Celebration
All are invited to the 30th Annual MSU Spring Powwow and Honor Dance Celebration on April 26-27, 2019 at the Minot State University Dome in Minot, North Dakota. The MSU Spring Powwow and Honor Dance Celebration, which is the largest MSU student event, pays tribute to school graduates at all levels. All graduates will be honored Saturday night with a Honor Parade, which will precede the evening Grand Entry. Graduates and their families are also honored with a buffalo meal on Saturday evening in the student center.
Minot State University Spring Powwow & Honor Dance Celebration
MSU is one of two universities in the state – University of North Dakota being the other – to maintain a Native American Center. The event originally started in 1989 as three members of the Fort Berthold tribe wanted to hold a powwow to celebrate their graduation. That first powwow was held in Swain Hall, and has now grown by leaps and bounds since to become the MSU Spring Powwow and Honor Dance Celebration.
In addition to the dance competition to honor graduates, the MSU Spring Powwow and Honor Dance Celebration includes acknowledgment of achievements, food booths and Native American arts and crafts for sale. The dance competitions offer money prizes to the winners in each category.
