Join us for the 31st Annual Nansemond Indian Pow Wow on August 17-18, 2019 at Mattanock Town in Suffolk, Virginia. All are welcome at this family friendly event featureing song and dance specials. Parking and admission are free! No drugs, alcohol, or pets (except service animals) allowed.
Nansemond Indian Pow Wow
The Nansemond Indian Pow Wow is a two-day Native American cultural celebration including music, dance, food, and crafts. This year’s Nansemond Indian Pow Wow will feature special events for the pow wow’s 30th anniversary and federal recognition of six Virginia Indian tribes. Parking and admission are free but donations are welcome and appreciated. The pow wow is located at the end of Pembroke Lane which runs off Godwin Boulevard (across from Oakland Elementary School) in the Chuckatuck area of Suffolk.

About the Nansemond Indian Nation
The Nansemond Indian Nation, host of the annual Nansemond Indian Powwow in August, formally organized with elected officers in 1984 and later applied for and received Virginia state recognition in 1985. After more than 30 years of effort as the Nansemond Indian Tribal Assocation, our tribe (along with 5 other tribes from the original Powhatan paramount chiefdom) was granted federal recognition. In honor of this turning point we have returned to the name used by our ancestors—the Nansemond Indian Nation.
