2018 Battle of Crampton’s Gap Reenactment
Join us for the annual Battle of Crampton’s Gap Reenactment on September 7-9, 2018 at the Hamilton Willard Shafer Farm in Burkittsville, Maryland. Experience living history and the excitement of battle through the town on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., followed by a “tactical” battle reenactment on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

Battle of Crampton’s Gap Reenactment Schedule
Friday
- 1:00 p.m. Registration begins at the Hamilton Willard Shafer Farm.
- Pull into temporary parking on the eastern side of the barn and walk into the house to register (if you registered online or by mail, you must still register that you have arrived at the house and pick up your envelope that has your token, your parking pass, your dinner pass, your schedule and map).
- Tours of the house will be available all day and event shirts will be on sale as well. You may also buy a bale of straw for $3 at registration.
- Federal troops may unload and set up camp, but the faster you can move your car to the reenactor parking lot, the best for all involved. Let us know if you need to pull up to your campsite due to physical limitations, so that we can make accomodations.
- CS troops can then drive to their camp site to unload as well.
- Reenactor parking is at the Ruritan Club on the east side of town.
- The shuttle will run continuously between the parking lot and the two camps which are only a mile apart. It will start at 1:00pm or as needed, ending at 11:00pm. It can also take those who wish to go, to the top of Crampton’s Gap.
Saturday
- 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Registration open
- The shuttle will run from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
- 3:00 p.m. Town Battle begins; Main Street and alleys will be closed to traffic).
- 5:00 p.m. Roads reopen as the battle ends on the Arnold farm, which is a short walk to the St. Paul’s Recreation Center where a hot cooked dinner will be served!
- Dinner Menu: Ham, Boiled Potatoes, Baked Beans, Green Beans, Applesauce, Biscuits & Butter, Iced Tea & Lemonade. Bring some money for home-made desserts! (Proceeds go to cancer research)
- There will be entertainment during dinner and it is another opportunity to view the museum at the German Reformed Church.
- 5:30 p.m. Shuttle starts again from 5:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Sunday
- 8:00 a.m. Federal Troops will start being transported to the Arnold farm for a tactical.
- 9:00 a.m. Tactical begins
- 10:00 a.m. Tactical will end and the shuttle will begin running again until 12:00 p.m.
- 1:00 p.m. Camps should be empty.
