Relive history at the Return To Number 4: Revolutionary War Weekend on September 29-30, 2018 at The Fort at No. 4 in Charlestown, New Hampshire. The Revolutionary War returns to the Fort at No. 4. during the Return To Number 4: Revolutionary War Weekend. Watch as English and Colonial armies meet on the battlefield once again. Sutlers will be happy to show you their wares so you can find the perfect accessory or souvenir. Experience an 18th Century Sunday service at 10:30 am.

Return To Number 4: Revolutionary War Weekend

This historic For at No. 4 was one of the northernmost posts for the British during the American War for Independence. There will be full battle reenactment, sutlers (colonial-period vendors), an instructional session for NCOs, and many more activities.

11:00 AM Presentation: Loyalist & His Musket with Eric Bye at David Farnsworth House
1:00 PM Battalion formation
1:30 PM Battle Commences

  • Participants are expected to dress appropriately for a Revolutionary War Event.
  • In addition to your unit’s authenticity guidelines, it is recommended and encouraged that you also follow the other standards listed below.
  • For both accuracy and fire safety reasons, garments made of all-natural fibers are highly recommended.
  • Civilian men are encouraged to wear a period correct coat, jacket or farmer’s smock at all times. Women are encouraged to wear a sleeved outer garment: a gown, jacket, bed gown, riding habit, or short gown.
  • Members of military and militia units are encouraged to wear their uniform coats especially while drilling, on parade, during arms inspection and at battle.
  • The use of role-appropriate methods of carrying personal belongings is encouraged. Haversacks were a military issued item intended for carrying rations. Civilian impressions are encouraged to use period correct baskets, knapsacks, market wallets, and work bags for carrying personal items.
  • Footwear should be appropriate to the historical impression. Gentleman wearing modern footwear for safety reasons should have them covered with well fitted gaiters or gaitered trousers. Sandals, Birkenstocks and sneakers, etc. are not appropriate in front of the public.
  • Wearing of modern jewelry other than wedding rings by both men and women is discouraged.
  • Event participants are encouraged to wear their 18th century clothing throughout the weekend including non-public hours.
  • Be considerate of our family audience; no ribald humor or profanity during open hours, and no prostitute impressions.
  • Only historically authentic camping is permitted within the camps during the Return To Number 4: Revolutionary War Weekend; and historically accurate living within the living history designated buildings. Please keep all modern amenities such as coolers, plastic tarps, etc. well-hidden during the hours when the museum is open (this includes toys, electronic games, strollers, playpens etc. for any children in historic costume who may be accompanying you.)
