History-lovers, join us at the 3rd Annual Baton Rouge Civil War Symposium on April 5-7, 2019 at the Louisiana Resource Center for Educators (LRCE) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Meet the symposium speakers at the Friday Speaker Reception, ask questions and take a maybe win a door prize! Doors to the Baton Rouge Civil War Symposium open on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. Visit dealers and interactive historic displays all day. The program opens at 9:00 a.m., with the first speaker at 9:15 a.m. On Sunday, the symposium activities move 20 miles north to the Port Hudson State Historic Site in Jackson, LA.

The Baton Rouge Civil War Symposium is sponsored by th Baton Rouge Civil War Round Table. The goal of the organization is to provide a non-partisan atmosphere, to educate and foster an appreciation of the sacrifices made by all during the civil war. The Baton Rouge Civil War Round Table is a non-profit organization and one of the oldest civil war round tables in the country (established 1963). Our members
have a wide range of civil war knowledge, from novice to expert. We are an amicable group, diverse in age and background and look forward to meeting you at the symposium, or other meetings.

Hallowed Ground Tour

  • Sponsored by the Friends of Port Hudson
  • ****A HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT MUST BE SIGNED TO ATTEND THE TOUR****
  • Assemble at the Port Hudson Historic Site at 9:00 AM ending at 1:00 PM
  • Caravan to: The Priest Cap, its about a 500 yard walk. We may have some assistance for the walking impaired.
  • We acquired exclusive access to, rarely seen by the public, private Confederate fortifications and earthworks. This tour is goes into the heart of confederate activity. Tour includes the last surviving Port Hudson building from the original town, UDC Confederate monument, Surrender Tree, Collier House, The Bluff, Yankee Breastworks, The Devil’s Elbow (Access the Devil’s Elbow is about a 500 yard walk down a trail), plus a couple surprises we will reveal on the tour.

  • Bug repellent for Chiggers, Mosquitoes, ants, etc.
  • Poncho or slicker suit. We are in Louisiana you know.
  • A snack and water. Consider your blood sugar and hydration level
  • A possible sweater or light jacket. Watch the weather
  • Comfortable shoes, something with you could get wet or dirty.
  • Common sense. If you are prepared nothing will happen if you are not prepared it will. So, plan for the worst and expect the best.

About the Port Hudson Historic Site
Port Hudson State Historic Site, venue of the annual Civil War Siege of Port Hudson Reenactment in Jackson, Louisiana, is a Civil War Battlefield with a Museum and hiking trails located right off of U.S. Hwy 61 just 14 miles north of Baton Rouge. There are six miles of trails, a large picnic area with two pavilions and restrooms. We are open Wednesday thru Sunday 9am to 5pm. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays along with Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.
