2018 Battle of Middle Creek Reenactment

The Annual Battle of Middle Creek Reenactment will be held September 7-9, 2018 at the Middle Creek National Battlefield in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Learn what life was like in eastern Kentucky more than 150 years ago during the Battle of Middle Creek Reenactment.  The three-day event, hosted by the Friends of Middle Creek, attracts thousands of people to the Middle Creek National Battlefield every year. Civil War reenactors and artisans travel from all over the region to participate. The Battle of Middle Creek is believed to have been Eastern Kentucky’s most significant Civil War battle.

The Battle of Middle Creek Reenactment features open camps for the public to tour and two days of reenactments. The event, sponsored by the Friends of Middle Creek was founded in 2008 as a nonprofit organization geared to preserve and celebrate eastern Kentucky’s Civil War heritage.

About The Battle of Middle Creek
On Jan. 10, 1962, Union forces led by Col. James A. Garfield and Confederate troops led by Brig. Gen. Humphrey Marshall fought in the Battle of Middle Creek, which was credited with ending the Confederate stronghold in the region. The results of the battle is believed to have launched the career of Garfield, who later became president.

Activities continue at the battlefield throughout the weekend. Events include a living history camp with demonstrations on blacksmithing, furniture-making and other crafts, battle re-enactments at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, evening ghost walks on Friday and Saturday, night firing of the canons on Saturday, a dance and other activities.
