2018 Chickasaw Annual Meeting and Festival
The Chickasaw Annual Meeting and Festival will be held from September 28 to October 06, 2018 at various locations in Tishomingo, Ada, Emet, Kullihoma and Sulphur. The culture of the Chickasaw Nation comes alive during the Chickasaw Nation Annual Meeting and Festival, a week-long event held in south-central Oklahoma’s Chickasaw Country. Activities are scheduled throughout the week, but the main events roll out on the festival’s final Saturday. Start your day with the State of the Nation address, then head for Pennington Park and a day of fun. The park fills with inflatables, a petting zoo and make-and-take tents, where children can play for hours. Arts and crafts vendors will showcase Native American arts and crafts, and a vast array of food will be available.
Chickasaw Annual Meeting and Festival
Numerous traditional events such as the Chickasaw Princess pageant, Cultural Evening, festival downtown parade, traditional meal and children’s activities are planned for the week-long Chickasaw Annual Meeting and Festival celebration. Participate in the 5K run, browse through vendors selling handmade goods, take the kids to the petting zoo and giant inflatables and see traditional dancing. There will also be a fry bread making class, a Chickasaw history challenge bowl, stickball and fishing tournaments, living history vignettes, a movie night and much more.
Spend some time at the southeastern art show and market on the capitol grounds, and learn from cultural demonstrations. In nearby Sulphur, tour the Chickasaw Cultural Center, try a traditional Chickasaw meal in the Aaimpa Café and experience breathtaking cultural exhibits. An action-packed rodeo closes out the festival with a bang.
