2019 Howard County American Indian Pow Wow
Everyone is welcome at the 26th Annual Howard County American Indian Pow Wow on July 20-21, 2019 at the Howard County Maryland Fairgrounds in West Friendship, Maryland. The Howard County American Indian Pow Wow is an opportunity to interact with American Indians, and to enjoy the best of Native American dancing and singing, craft demonstrations and story-telling. Members of the Haliwa-Saponi, Piscataway, Chickahominy, Rappahannock, Cherokee, Sioux, Iroquois, Lumbee, and Navajo are a few of the Tribes that will participate. Some of the finest Native American crafts will be available. Items for sale include fine art turquoise jewelry, moccasins, beadwork, rugs, books, paintings, and more.
Howard County American Indian Powwow
Gates open at 10:00AM on Saturday and the event will kick off with a parade of nations (grand entry) at 12:00 noon. Native American Dancers in regalia (American Indian outfits) will dance and drum daily. Fun activities for children include bow “n” arrow shooting, face painting, and storytelling. This a contest Pow-Wow, something that will add to the excitement as the best dancers from around the region compete for cash prizes.
Buffalo stew, Indian fry bread, Indian tacos, Indian corn soup, and buffalo burgers are just a few of the Native American food items that will be on sale at the at the Howard County Pow Wow. American fare, such as hot dogs, and hamburgers will be sold as well.
Saturday: 10:00 am – 7:00 pm; Parade of Nations at noon.
Sunday: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Ages 13-up – $9.00
Ages 3-12 – $6.00
Ages 2 and under are free
