About Little Earth of United Tribes
The Annual Little Earth Mothers Day Powwow is hosted by the Little Earth Resident’s Powwow Planning Committee. Their ‘parent’ organization is Little Earth of United Tribes, the only Native-preference urban housing community in the nation. Little Earth was founded in 1973 to create affordable housing in South Minneapolis. As the first urban housing complex with Native preference, Little Earth serves as a national model, at the forefront of American Indian migration into urban areas. Today, Little Earth is comprised of four organizations with a unified management structure. Each organization has a separate function, however all work cooperatively to build our community and create opportunities for Indian people to achieve self-determination.
