Join us for the 28th Annual Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Grand Celebration Powwow on June 14-16, 2019 at the Grand Casino Hinckley Powwow Grounds (just south of the casino on County Road 15) in Hinckley, Minnesota. The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Grand Celebration Powwow has been an annual event since 1992, being held on the third weekend each June. The Grand Celebration Powwow is a contest powwow drawing dancers and drum groups from around the nation and Canada who compete for substantial prize money in a variety of categories.

Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Grand Celebration Powwow

The dancing begins at 7:00 PM Friday with the start of the Grand Entry, followed by intertribal and contest dancing. On Saturday, Grand Entries begin dance sessioins at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm, with the final Grand Entry and dance session on Sunday, beginning at 1:00 pm. The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Grand Celebration Powwow is family friendly, so bring everyone. Bring your chairs; bleacher seating also available.

By most accounts, women’s Jingle Dress Dance has its roots in some part of Ojibwe country, be it Wisconsin to the Mille Lacs Ojibewe community in north central Minnesota, to White Fish Bay, Ontario. $9000 in prize money for this category alone!
