2019 NAIA Education Pow Wow and Arts Exhibition
The 38th Annual NAIA Education Pow Wow and Arts Exhibition on October 18-20, 2019 at Long Hunter State Park in Nashville, Tennessee offers you the opportunity to personally experience the culture and spirit of the American Indian people. The NAIA Education Pow Wow and Arts Exhibition attracts people from all over the state of Tennessee and the United States. Watch as dancers compete for over $20,000 in prize money in a number of Men’s and Women’s dance categories.
NAIA Education Pow Wow and Arts Exhibition
This fall, journey to Nashville for an event you will always remember – a three-day NAIA Education Pow Wow and Arts Exhibition offering you the opportunity to personally experience the culture and spirit of the American Indian people.
Each October, Indians of different Nations gather to share part of their culture. This spirited event is not just for the reunion of family and friends, but for anyone who would like to witness and join in the celebration of the culture that is nurtured by some 19,500 Indians who call Tennessee home today.
Your NAIA Education Pow Wow and Arts Exhibition experience includes: Native American Arts & Crafts, Paintings, Pictures, Clothing, Indian Jewelry, Pottery, Storytelling, Indian Games, Demonstrations. Treat yourself to the delights of traditional native food, such as fry bread, Indian tacos, and hominy made the “Indian way”.
The NAIA Education Pow Wow and Arts Exhibition is funded in part by a grant from South Arts in Partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and Tennessee Arts Commission.

Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m. School day; Free for students and seniors
Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – until; Opening Ceremony; Dancers register by noon
Sunday: 10:00 a.m. – 5P00 p.m.; 11:00 a.m. Opening Ceremony

Powwow Etiquette and Tips
- Honor and Respect the Powwow. Powwow is a sacred event. Ceremonial songs and dances will be performed.
- Respect the Elders. Please do not talk while they are speaking on the public address system.
- Dress Appropriately. Revealing clothing is considering disrespectful.
- Listen to the Emcee. He keeps the singers, dancers, and general public informed of what is happening.
- Do Not Touch the Dancers or Their Regalia. The ornaments and dress are considered sacred objects and/or family heirlooms.
- Ask Permission Before Taking a Photo or Recording. Do not enter the dance arena for a photo. Refrain from taking photographs of young children who are not your family members.
- Respect the Flag Song. The Flag Song or Indian National Anthem is sung when the American Flag is raised or lowered. Please stand and remove hats during the singing of this song.
- Seating Around the Dancing Circle is Reserved for drummers, singers, and dancers. Bleachers are provided, but you are welcome to bring your lawn chairs.
- If you have any questions, the emcee, Arena Director, dancers, elders, or staff are happy to help. Enjoy and have fun!
