The Pine Point Powwow is open to everyone. You do not need to be a member of the particular tribe holding the powwow and you do not need to be a Native American in order to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Pine Point Powwow. There are many non-Natives who attend the event to visit friends and enjoy the celebrations.
Grand Entries Begin Dance Sessions
Three Grand Entry Celebrations (1:00 p.m. Saturday, 7:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. Sunday) feature a large pageantry of young, elders, veterans and dancers of all ages. The drum groups begin its celebratory, traditional songs as military veterans carry flags and hundreds of dancers donning their traditional powwow apparel file in, one by one.
All Family Flags Welcome
Powwows are big on honoring military veterans, particularly veterans of war, and Pine Point Powwow is no exception. The numerous, various types of flags that fly at powwows are ones that are carried in by veterans or their families. At Pine Point, over a dozen American flags will also be featured, as those flags represent a Native American from the area who died while serving in the military.

Ugly cars are cool. Pine Point feathures “The Rez Parade,” in which the ugliest, most rusted out, banged up, pathetic looking vehicle in the parade wins the prize. These vehicles are also featured in a demolition derby Friday night prior to the powwow.
Princess & Brave Contest
One of the showcase events is the Princess and Brave contest, where one girl and one boy are chosen as Princess and Brave of the powwow for being a good role model. The Princess and Brave chosen at this powwow will represent Pine Point throughout the following year at various events including other powwows.
Traditional & Contemporary Food Vendors
Nobody goes hungry. Not only does the powwow feature a number of food vendors, many of those food vendors are serving up helpings of traditional, Native American food. Indian tacos (which is fry bread with ground hamburger, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, salsa and other taco fixings), as well as wild rice dishes, walleye fingers and hominy (corn stew) will be playing pallets like a happy drum.
Craft Vendors
Craft booths will be found across the powwow grounds. Only Native American-style booths are allowed to be set up, which will include handmade moccasins, jewelry, beadwork, keychains, sticks, dreamcatchers and more, all for sale at the powwow.
Camping
Camping with showers is available at the site, and security is provided.
Safe, Family-Friendly Event
No alcohol or drugs are allowed – period. It is a longstanding powwow tradition that the festivities remain clean, safe places for families to freely celebrate their Native American culture. Not only will there be security personnel checking people at the gates for drugs or alcohol, but it is not allowed in the campers either. If campers are discovered to have some, they are escorted off the premises.
