2018 Yorktown Civil War Weekend

Join us for the annual Yorktown Civil War Weekend on April 14-15, 2018 at the Watermen’s Museum (and other venues) in Yorktown, Virginia for an exploration of Yorktown’s Civil War History with living history demonstrations and special exhibits located throughout Yorktown.

Yorktown Civil War Weekend programs will include a military encampment along with Infantry and Artillery firing demonstrations and costumed guided tours at the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center. Special Exhibits will be featured at the York County Historical Museum at York Hall and the Museum on Main Street, and Riverwalk Landing. The Watermen’s Museum will feature maritime exhibits, living history, artillery demonstrations, period music, vendors, children’s activities, food trucks and beverages. Guided tour of the Battle for Dam #1 at Newport News Park Saturday at 3pm. There will be a Civil War themed contra dance at the Watermen’s Museum Saturday night from 6-8 p.m.

Visit the Schooner Alliance, Catch a free trolley ride, and visit all of the sites in beautiful Historic Yorktown.

The Confederate forces withdrew to Richmond on May 3, and the town was occupied by the Federal Army and Navy. How did the people of the area react? What happened when the Civil War came to the York River? Find the answers at the Yorktown Civil War Weekend.
