2019 AISES Lumbee Homecoming Powwow
Join us for the annual AISES Lumbee Homecoming Powwow on July 6, 2019 at the University of North Carolina in Pembroke, NC. The AISES Lumbee Homecoming Powwow is one of the final events on closing day of the big Lumbee Homecoming Celebration that takes place over nine days in June and July each year at various venues around Pembroke, NC and the UNC Pembroke Campus.
AISES Lumbee Homecoming Powwow
The AISES Lumbee Homecoming Powwow will begin at 12:00 pm at the UNC-P Quad. Though part of the last day of Lumbee Homecoming festivities, it is sponsored by the American Indian Science & Engineering Society at UNC. The Quad/Bell Tower Area is between the Library and the “Old Main”.

At 12:30 p.m. at the AISES Lumbee Homecoming Powwow, a coronation ceremony will take place for the newly elected Senior Miss Lumbee, Miss Lumbee, Teen Miss Lumbee, Junior Miss Lumbee and Little Miss Lumbee. The women were selected during pageants at Robeson Community College and Givens Performing Arts Center during the prior week of Lumbee Homecoming activities.
Powwow dancing and singing and specialty dance demonstrations such as hoop dancing will continue until 5:00 p.m. Bring your chairs and blankets for seating.
About the American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES)
In an effort to increase awareness of Native cultures at UNC and other campuses (this is a national organization), the AISES sponsors powwows such as the AISES Lumbee Homecoming Powwow. Community members and students alike are welcome and encouraged to attend this free event, which will feature native powwow singers and dancers.

Each summer, the Lumbee Homecoming celebration of theier heritage draws thousands for over a week of festivities like the Lumbee Games tournaments; Miss, Ms. and Little Miss Lumbee pageants; cookouts, concerts, the Lumbee Homecoming Powwow (aka AISES Pow Wwow) and more. While the biggest day is the last Saturday with the 5k run, pageants, parade, market and pow wow, each day you will find activities and events that celebrate various aspects of Lumbee culture.
