2019 GFPS Youth Powwow
Join us for the GFPS Youth Powwow on May 11, 2019 at the Montana ExpoPark Exhibition Hall in Great Falls, Montana. Saturday, Mother’s Day Weekend, Native American students in the Great Falls Public Schools unite to bring back a tradition that has not been seen in Great Falls for seven years, the GFPS Youth Powwow.
The GFPS Youth Powwow returns to the Montana ExpoPark Exhibition Hall with tiny tots to golden age dance categories, food, music, vendors and celebration of Native American heritage all day long. After years without this event, demand from the students has led to the event’s return in 2017.
The GFPS Youth Powwow features grand entries at 1 and 6 p.m. with the top three places paid in tiny tots, junior, teen, adult, golden age and team dance categories and host drum by the Blackfeet High School Singers.
Together with their adult mentors, the students provide a feed from 4 to 6 p.m. to honor their elders, and participants in guests can browse vendors selling beadwork, art, blankets and more. The public is encouraged to attend.

About the Powwow Organizers and Sponsors
GFPS Youth Powwow is planned and organized by interTRIBAL Strong and the Great Falls Public School District Indian Education Department.
The The GFPS Youth Powwow is student-led, so the students are doing all of the fundraising and all of the planning. The charge to host the powwow was taken up by students from Great Falls High School, C.M. Russell High School and Paris Gibson Education Center who are members of interTRIBAL Strong, a leadership group of American Indians from all high schools seeking to increase graduation rate, pay it forward through service projects and project positive images in the media of American Indian students.
The group, consisting of about 50 kids, teamed up with GFPS’s Indian Parent Advisory Committee and mentors from the community to fund and plan every aspect of the event. They have even put together a learning brochure about powwows for the public and coordinated a free book giveaway for children.
Great Falls Public School District Indian Education Department and the sponsor for the GFPS Youth Powwow are not responsible for anything beyond our control, including, but not limited to accidents, fire or theft. This is an alcohol and drug free event.
Mark your calendar today so you don’t forget the next GFPS Youth Powwow at the Montana ExpoPark Exhibition Hall in Great Falls, Montana.
