Relive Civil War America at the 30th Annual Hartford City Civil War Days on October 18-20, 2019 in Hartford City, Indiana. Experience Indiana’s largest Civil War and artillery night fire event. Step back in time to the period of 1862 to see how the Civil War Soldiers dressed, lived, and fought. Hartford City Civil War Days is a reenactment and living history event that covers the time period in which our country was divided. During the Hartford City Civil War Days you will see demonstrators, on going presentations, three battles (2 on Saturday, 1 on Sunday) which covers the year of 1862.

Hartford City Civil War Days

Visit the sutlers who sold their goods to the soldiers and civilians. Walk through the camps and talk with the soldiers and civilians (reenactors too). You can also purchase both period and non-period food, including cold root beer in the “Saloon”, the blacksmiths, weaver, spinners, rug maker, refugees, and medical demonstration. Other activities include: Ladies Tea and Fashion show, Cooking Contest, Tug-of-War, military ball (Saturday evening), and spectacular and colorful artillery night fire.

Student Discovery Day (Friday 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)
The Hartford City Civil War Days Student Discovery Day has hosted more than 40,000 students in the past twelve years. This is a day where one can step back more than 150 years ago and relive history. Experience first hand (by the way of presenters) how life was during the American Civil War. Learn from presentations from Civilians, Sutlers and Military standpoints. Learn the lifestyle, hardships and struggles these soldiers faced during Americas bloodiest war. Students will be able to step back in time during 1864. They will be able to interact with the Doctor, act as a prisoner in the Jailhouse, Abraham Lincoln, the Blacksmith, and so much more! Students’ can even interact with the Artillery Infantry demonstrations.

As the day continues, students will be able to experience skirmishes during the time of the Civil War. They will learn about the battle taking place by General Grant as he gives information about military tactics during the war.

To finish out their fun day of iterations, students will be able to view the Saloon and cool down with a refreshing bottle of root beer or water. If they are in need of a snack they can also eat a pickle or a stick of beef jerky.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion]

Paved parking lot for cars just across from camps. For RVs needing (non-modern) hookups, parking is available is the the south field. Absolutely no parking allowed in the cemetery adjacent in the camps on the east side.

CAMP ACCOMMODATIONS AND ACTIVITIES
Plenty of military and civilian camp sites available. Straw is provided, one half bale per person. Hay will be provided for mounted cavalry. Fire wood also provided and located near all camps. Free Saturday evening meal served to all reenactors. Other activities: Ladies tea, fashion show (competition), cooking contest (competition), battles, demonstrations, and on-going entertainment. Saturday night will feature night time artillery firing and Military Ball. Sunday: church service, pay call, and battle.

LODGING
Those choosing not to stay over night at the re-enactors camp area
have the option of sleeping at the 4H Building (with rest rooms) or at a nearby hotel (Relax Inn, phone no. 1-765-348-1403). All are within 2 miles of the event grounds. Additional lodging available at Interstate 69 and St. Rd. 22. Gas City and Upland exits. Approximately 12 miles form event.
