2018 Indian Council of Many Nations Summer Pow Wow
Celebrate Native culture at the annual Indian Council of Many Nations Summer Pow Wow on August 24-25, 2018 at the IMCN Pow Wow Grounds in Grain Valley, Missouri. The ICMN Pow Wow features traditional dancing, drumming, singing and other activities. It’s a family friendly event, so be sure to bring everyone! Seating is limited, so bring folding chairs, too! Vendors will be onhand to offer various items such as beadwork, drums, leather clothing and jewelry made of sliver or other metals. Food items that will include pow wow favorites like fry bread, Indian tacos and buffalo hamburgers.
Organizers expect hundreds of participants and thousands of spectators to attend the Indian Council of Many Nations Summer Pow Wow from around the region, including those who traveled from Oklahoma, South Dakota, New Mexico, Iowa and Nebraska.
The festivities will begin Saturday with the crowing of the Pow Wow Princess, followed by Gourd Dancing at noon, then at 2:00 p.m. by a Grand Entry and intertribal dancing. A dinner break will separate the afternoon and evening dance sessions. The evening program will begin with Gourd Dancing at 6:00 p.m., followed at 7:00 p.m. by the Grand Entry, led by a color guard that consisted of a staff made from eagle feathers, the American flag, the Council of Many Nations flag and flags representing the armed forces as well as the POW-MIA flag. Behind them, the head dancers, several Indian princesses representing different tribal organization throughout the region, and the other dancers dressed in their beautiful regalia. Military veterans and others will also dance to honor a relative who had served in the armed forces. Sunday, afternoon Gourd Dancing and Grand Entry will follow the same schedule as Saturday’s.
