2019 Leech Lake Labor Day Pow Wow
Join us for the Annual Leech Lake Labor Day Pow Wow on August 30 – September 1, 2019 at the Veterans’ Memorial Grounds, 3 miles northeast of Cass Lake, Minnesota. Native dancers and drum groups from throughout the Upper Midwest, northern Great Plains and Canada will be at the Leech Lake Labor Day Pow Wow (aka Wii Gitchi Ni Mi l Dim Labor Day Contet Pow Wow) to celebrate. Events start on Saturday and Sunday with flag-raising at 10:00 a.m.. Grand entry of dancers is 7 p.m. Friday, 1 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. Sunday.
Leech Lake Labor Day Pow Wow (aka Wii Gitchi Ni Mi l Dim Labor Day Contet Pow Wow) 2014
There will be dance categories for adult men and women ages 18 to 34 and ages 35 to 54 in categories of traditional, fancy, grass and chicken dance for men; and traditional, fancy shawl and jingle dress for women. There is also an age 55 and older category for men and women that combines the categories for each gender. Junior dancers, boys and girls ages 6 to 12 and teen boys and girls 13 to 17, will be dancing in the same categories as adults.
The Leech Lake Labor Day Pow Wow is a family-friendly event. It’s both an education and it’s fun, so spend your Labor Day Weekend either participating in or learning about Native American culture, while you enjoy the sights and sounds of the pow wow dancing and singing, the arts and crafts vendors, and the food booths (don’t forget the fry bread)!
