2019 Native at Virginia Tech Spring Powwow
Join us for the 3rd Annual Native at Virginia Tech Spring Powwow on April 6, 2019 on the GLC Lawn in Blacksburg, Virginia. The celebration attracts members from tribes in Virginia, such as the Monacan Indian Nation in Amherst County and others, and persons of all ‘persuations’. The Native at Virginia Tech Spring Powwow is organized by Native at VT, a student organization dedicated to making Native American students more visible on campus. Bring the whole family to experience Native American dancing, drumming, singing, food, and craft vendors. Bring folding chairs or blankets for seating.
Native at Virginia Tech Spring Powwow
Native Americans are one of the smallest minority groups at Tech The Powwow lets them showcase Native American culture as it really is, rather than the stereotypical Native Americans depicted in textbooks or seen in movies.

Powwow Etiquette
Please observe the following powwow etiquette tips, shared by powwow organizers:
- Listen to the emcees. They will provide direction at all times (when it is appropriate to remove hats and caps, when photos are not allowed, etc.).
- Dress respectfully. Avoid revealing attire, costumes, or headdresses.
- Do not touch the dancers or their regalia.
- Ask before you take a photo of individuals outside the arena and never enter the dance arena for a photo. Remember to listen to the emcee to learn when photos are allowed.
- Feel free to talk (at appropriate times) with those around you. Ask about what you don’t understand. Many will be eager to share and explain their indigenous culture and knowledge.
