2019 Oakville Indian Mounds Multicultural Indian Event
Please join us for the 32nd Annual Oakville Indian Mounds Multicultural Indian Event on May 18, 2019 at the Oakville Indian Mounds Education Center in Danville, Alabama. The event celebrates the diversity of Native American culture in Alabama. Cherokee, Creek, and Chickasaw living history demonstrations will featured as well as Civil War reenactments, arts and crafts, free hand’s on children’s activities, live birds of prey and concessions.
About 10,000 people attended last year’s Oakville Indian Mounds Multicultural Indian Event, an annual festival held in May and sponsored by the Lawrence County Native American Student Club. Indian heritage is kept alive in crafts, music, dance, ceremony, and camaraderie. Native crafts and customs came alive through actual demonstrations that included flint-knapping, basket weaving, finger-weaving, gorget carving, woodcarving, blacksmithing, pottery production, cornhusk doll making, Native American foods display, weaponry displays, Native American dancing and music.
The dance arena will feature Native American drum groups, flute music, dance demonstrations, and song in native southeastern languages and our amphitheater will showcase country, gospel, and bluegrass music.

There will also be $1 activities such as face-painting, canoe rides, and wagon rides. The Oakville Indian Mounds Education Center park also hosts a 5k walking trail and this is a family friendly event with something for all ages. Please note that pets are not allowed on school system property. Admission is free. There is a $2 parking donation.
