The Pahrump Social Powwow will start on Friday at noon and go through Sunday until 6:00 p.m. The celebration begins with a spiritual side where participants gather to give thanks. Veteran Native Americans are also honored at this time and then three days of dancing begins.
Marge Pesek of the Review Journal once called the Pahrump Powwow Pahrump’s largest cultural event of the year, which brings Native American tribes together for three day celebration of beating drummers, dancers, musicians and craftsman from tribes all over the West.
The Pahrump Powwow celebrates the Native American Culture and preserves the cultural heritage, and even renews friendships. Visitors to the powwow will experience colorful dancers in elaborate Native American regalia. At the powwow, dancing is a major part of the gathering. There are kid dancing competitions and adult competitions. Each tribe has their own tribal dances. There is even a time where all the tribes gather for an intertribal dance.
In addition to dancers, Native American craftsman display their wares and one can expect to sample many dishes of Native American food as well. The Powwow also usually attracts at least 30 to 40 crafts booths. During this cultural celebration would be a great time to pick up that unique Christmas gift.
