2019 Labor Day Kipona Festival and Powwow

It’s time for the 103rd Annual Labor Day Kipona Festival and Powwow on August 31 – September 2, 2019 along the Susquehanna River in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The festival gets its name, ‘Kipona’, from the American Indian name that means ‘Sparkling Waters’. The centerpiece of the annual Kipona Festival, the Native American Pow-Wow will feature singing, dancing and a celebration of the Native American culture. Craft vendors will also be available.

Harrisburg’s Kipona Festival, held each year over Labor Day weekend, is ranked one of the top five in Pennsylvania. Join us to celebrate over 100 years of fun, food and festivals. The Labor Day Kipona Festival and Powwow will feature:

  • Food vendors, Art/Product vendors and Non-profit vendors
  • Two entertainment stages featuring live music and one children’s stage
  • Native American Pow Wow
  • Wine Tent at Paddlewheel Café
  • Festival of India
  • Children’s village with carnival games, bounce house, caricature, artists, face painting, arts and crafts
  • Art vendors
  • Fireworks

Admission: Free & Open to the Public

Labor Day Kipona Festival and Powwow Mini Gallery

Kipona Festival Hours:
Saturday: 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Sunday: 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Monday: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Continuing the Tradition: Canoe Racing
Khe Kipona began as a water festival featuring canoe races and other water sports along Harrisburg’s waterfront. The canoe racing tradition continues in honor of the late Dick Reese, one of the most successful canoe racers from the 1940s and 1950s. Beginning at 10 AM Monday, the Dick Reese Kipona Canoe Classic will feature short citizen races with canoes and equipment provided by the Canoe Club of Greater Harrisburg. Spectators will be able to view the races from River Front Park beginning and ending at the barge.

Visitors can park on the streets for free Sunday and Monday. $10 special event parking in the Market Square garage; $5 parking on City Island; 4 hours of free street parking using the code LUVHBG in the ParkMobile App
