2019 Smoking Waters Mountain Man Rendezvous
Don’t miss the 14th Annual Smoking Waters Mountain Man Rendezvous & 1800s Living History Encampment on August 2-11, 2019 at the Old Airport in West Yellowstone, Montana. This event brings life to the history of West Yellowstone for visitors coming to see how the mountain men lived, worked and traded in the old days. The Smoking Waters Mountain Man Rendezvous & 1800s Living History Encampment features entertainment, demonstrations and seminars related to trades and crafts of the fur trade era of the early 1800s. Enjoy troytelling, traders row, beading, leatherwork, parfletch, knife and hawk throws, primitive bow shooting and competition, primitive bow making, flint knapping, food and much more!

PRIMITIVE BOW SHOOT

$5.00 Fee – prizes awarded to top three places.
Public may participate.*
*(A primitive, handmade wood bow is required)
KNIFE AND HAWK COMPETITION: tentatively scheduled for immediately following bow shoot.

Fees: For 10 Day Event $125.00 – 5 Days or less $75.00
Traders must have primitive style canvas tents. No easy-ups or plastic tents. Goods must relate to the 1800s time period.

For 10 Day Event $50.00 – Daily Rate $8.00
This is a primitive camp – no water or electric. Come with water and propane. We are situated on Gallatin National forest land. Forest Service bear safety rules will apply and be strictly enforced. No food left outside, etc.
Fire bans are often in effect this time of year, o prepare for no wood fires. Propane is allowed. For current restrictions, contact the Gallatin National Forest Service. Modern camping available in West Yellowstone. Showers, laundry, water and dump are 4 blocks away. One block to town and walking distance to many restaurants.
VISITOR INFORMATION
The Smoking Waters Mountain Man Rendezvous is held in early August of each year, lasting about 9 days. Storytelling is a favorite activity, and not just for the kids. Musicians provide live entertainment, and open fire cooking gives the food terrific flavor. Black powder shoots fascinate young and old, and tomahawk and knife demonstrations hold a special thrill. Visitors begin to appreciate some of the challenges and dangers that existed in the days of the mountain men when they take part in some of the seminars held during this event.

The encampment can be spotted off of US 20 when coming from the southwest. The Smoking Waters Mountain Main Rendezvous takes place on forest land of the Gallatin National Forest, directly west of West Yellowstone and adjacent to Iris Street.
