2019 Salish Kootenai College Powwow and Graduate Honoring
All are welcome to the annual Salish Kootenai College Powwow and Graduate Honoring on May 10-11, 2019 at the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Center in Pablo, Montana. The Salish Kootenai College Powwow and Graduate Honoring is a powwow to recognize the accomplishments of the colleges’ students. The event, also known as the SKC Powwow, spans three dance sessions in two days, Friday and Saturday. SKC Powwow events include a Miss SKC Pageant, a graduate honor ceremony and intertribal dancing. Grand Entries start each session, beginning at 7 p.m., Friday night and continuing Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Center.
Salish Kootenai College Powwow and Graduate Honoring
Contest dancing is slated to begin Friday and includes Junior, Teen and Adult categories, as well as Golden Age. Drum pay is tentatively set for the first 10 registered drums, with dance specials to be announced. There will be concessions, vendors and raffles with all proceeds going to helping with the Salish Kootenai College Powwow and Graduate Honoring. Vendor space is available so call today to reserve a spot.
Students will be receiving either one-year certificates, two-year associate degrees or four-year baccalaureate degrees in June. Some graduates will go on to teach in classrooms around Montana, while others will be fulfilling summer internships and going on to graduate school.
Saturday, there will also be a traditional dinner that anyone is welcome to attend, with the Salish Kootenai College Powwow and Graduate Honoring being capped off with more contests and dancing.
