2019 Native American Day Wacipi
Join us for the 20th Annual Native American Day Wacipi on October 14, 2018 at the Coliseum of the Multi-Cultural in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. South Dakota celebrates Native Americans’ Day on what is widely recognized in the rest of the country as “Columbus Day on the second Monday of October.” Native American Day is a day to celebrate the customs, culture and history of Native Americans — and that’s exactly what the Multi-Cultural Center of Sioux Falls wants you to do at the Native American Day Wacipi. A Wacipi (pow wow) and community dinner will be held in honor of the day and will be open to the public starting at 6:00 P.M.
As part of the Native American Day Wacipi celebration, children who are regular participants of the Multi-Cultural Center after-school programs will be invited to attend an early dinner and mini Wacipi. They will have the opportunity to learn footwork and pow wow etiquette, as traditional drumming and singing fills the Coliseum.
At 6:00 P.M. the public will be invited into the Coliseum for a community dinner. After the Grand Entry at 7:00 P.M., where guests will observe the Eagle Feather Staff as well as the national, state, tribal, and veterans’ flags, the Wacipi will begin.
